Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. At first, you have to check its speaker. Check whether the sound is muted or not. If all of these is ok, ie, speaker OK, sound not muted; you have to check its audio output section circuit, and have to replace damaged component/s there. sounds like you need a new bulb

Just press the CC button on the remote. Some TV stations may not send out CC data. Pressing the CC button many times will cycle thru all the options including OFF.

If you provide information on what TV, we may be able to help you. I have to assume it is a big rear projection TV and not a Flat Panel TV as Flat Panel TV's do not have a bulb, they have CCF tubes which are not user replaceable.
