SOURCE: Remote volume control for Sharp Aquos 42inch LCD not working
User 'rapolley' is absolutely right. One can cycle through the functions to access different options, ie. 'TV', 'Audio', 'DVD', etc. I stumbled upon this solution when I thought my 'Menu' button wasn't working. All I had to do is cycle through the 'Functions' and choose 'Menu' once I get to 'TV'. Thanks!

I also have the akai PDP4273M1 tv with power and no picture and I looked at the power supply board inside and found 1 of the FMG26S chips blown and I am looking into replacing this to see if that does it and if not do a search for SANKEN PSC10165B M and for approx 170.00 you can get a whole new power supply for it and its easy to put in..

Testing remote control:
The remote control puts out IR (InfraRed) signal that human eyes cannot see, to find out if the remote is sending out the signal or not you just point the remote at the digital camera’s Lens (Digital Camera can detect IR), you should see flashing light on the camera’s screen when any one of the remote button is pushed. If you do see the flashing on the camera, then the problem is in the TV IR receiver or the main logic board; more troubleshooting with scope will be needed to look at the signals.
