Accidentally plugged xm reciever into sirius car adapter

I have both xm and sirius and have adapters for either in both my vehicles. I was on travel and my wife decided to take the xm out of my car to use in hers because she wanted to listen to "Oprah" and she used the wrong adapter (sirius 12 Vdc). Obviously the Xm reciever didnt' appreciate this (6 Vdc input) and when I push the power button it starts up to the XM2GO page, flickers a little bit, goes to a blank white screen and then flicks over to "battery charging". When out of the charger it won't turn on at all. I am an electronics technician, so if it's dooable I'd like to fix it (any advice, direction would be appreciated).

  • moynihanta Jan 18, 2009

I guess I didn't post the question correctly. I'm well aware that the unit was damaged by plugging a 12 VDC power supply into the 6 VDC input. I was hoping to get a technical answer i.e. remove power protect diode at input (schematic description) and replace with (part number) etc., or if there isn't anyone who can answer how to fix it, maybe there is a way to transfer the radio i.d. to another unit (switch ROMs) etc. ( This is a DELPHI XM2GO SA10113 unit )Thanks

  • moynihanta Jan 19, 2009

I opened the unit and checked for obvious damage and did not see any. I was hoping for a link to a schematic in order to troubleshoot. Specifically I would like to know if there is an over voltage protection circuit on the DC input to the device. Again, it will only power on (as described in the original post) when in the cradle. The battery will not power the device at all. Thanks

Sorry to say, but this unit is toasted.. I have seen this same problem several times when people will cut the end off of their car adapter to wire it in permanently - only problem being, is the end they cut off holds the voltage reducing board, so they also send 12v into them, frying them and displaying the same exact symptoms.

the XM2GO needs to be sent back to the manufacturer for an exchange if under warranty.

  • Anonymous Jan 19, 2009

There is not a readily available schematic for the XM 2 go..However, even if we did have one to look at, the circuitry inside that unit is so small, is ALL discreet surface mount components, and processor controlled - what I meant to say is this is basically an unfixable unit. They are built as disposables - it would cost more in labor and parts than it would just to replace the unit.

Where to start.... well take the case apart and look for the burnt components and replace them.... i would suggest buying a replacement as a good repair is not likely. there is one thing you could try... replace the battery... tho i do suspect it is fried

Robert

Don't really mean to be the bearer of bad news... but twice the voltage isn't good.

So the device got double the recommened voltage, a bit of a overdose. Well, Open it up and inspect the battery and its connectors. see if anything is burned.

It definitely wont be a easy repair, have a look inside.

Outside of warranty I suppose?

you may not be getting enough power to the base because of a bad components l
connection between the base and the receiver, and it won't power
up because it has no battery charge. Try plugging the AC power adapter
directly into the bottom of the receiver . Push
the adapter plug toward the back of the receiver to see if the + sign
on the battery on the top right of the screen shows that it is now
receiving power and charging. Alternatively, with the receiver in the
base, try pulling the top of the reciever toward you to tilt the
receiver forward on the pins to see if it starts charging.

HP Mini 110 disconnects frequently from the network connection

Auto Tech: SiriusXM Satellite Radio

It seems like satellite radio has been around Canada forever now. Virtually every new vehicle sold here incorporates a satellite radio option although some even include satellite radio standard. May it be Sirius or XM, satellite radio offers drivers numerous radio channels which are accessible virtually anywhere in North America-ideal for international calls trips.

For anyone unaware of satellite radio, it is really an audio service available either inside your vehicle, with your mobile device, or online. The plethora of programming and quality of sound is different from station to station, and in some cases from song to song. Some songs be understood as there're being streamed throughout the internet and some could be seen as an audio DVD being took part in the car's built-in system. In addition to the various theme-based music channels, there are news, talk, and sports channels.

Satellite radio wouldn't actually arrived at Canada until 2005 when both XM and Sirius began offering it to us Canucks. Individuals who regularly employ this service, or keep pace with industry trends, knows that Sirius and XM merged in north america in 2008 and brought their services together. In Canada however, things were different. Sirius Canada and XM Canada failed to initially agree to the merger because of differing views regarding who should get what percentage from the company. But, a contract was reached and on April 12, 2011 SiriusXM Canada was officially formed.

Xm check atenna connection

If you are getting the same "check antenna" message with two different antennas, it is likely that the tuner itself is the problem. You can get just the mini tuner here:

http://www.tss-radio.com/products/xm-mini-tuner-replacement-home-dock

As far as the two plug connection, there are adapters available. Its likely a dual fakra connection, though I don't know for sure. At any rate, this is one adapter available. (I would call to confirm)

I don'tknow how to use the satellite radio...

Got this off the crutchfiel web site.

Item #700XMSON1 $129.98 This XM Direct 2 package includes everything you need to add XM Satellite Radio to your compatible Sony receiver: an XM Mini-Tuner, a CNP2000UC universal adapter, and a Sony connector cable. The Mini-Tuner connects to the universal adapter, then you use the connector cable to hook up the adapter to your Sony receiver.
Use your home computer to program the universal adapter for your Sony receiver — you can reprogram this adapter to work with another brand in the future. Once connected, you'll be able to change channels and see programming information on your stereo's display. You can also use the included XM Mini-Tuner with your XM-ready home receiver or in another vehicle with a compatible dock.
A computer running Windows XP and Internet Explorer is required. The unit is not compatible with Windows Vista.
Note: A subscription to XM is also required — learn about XM's programming. Satellite radio service is available only within Canada and the lower 48 states — not available in Hawaii or U.S. territories. Portable reception may vary by location. If you have questions about the proposed XM/SIRIUS merger, read the XM Customer Promise. To view this file, you will need the Adobe Acrobat PDF reader.

Satellite Radio

Yes, but it will require a tuner adapter so that your deck will properly recognize XM. However for my deck I noticed that "Sirius" will still be displayed as the satilite provider on the display menu. Confusing but don't cause much concern.

Question about sirius radio for kenwood cd player

You can try it, but I think you might need a media expander/controller. I see some going for around $100 on Ebay. It allows you to add and interface many component to your deck. But make sure the deck ready to control it. You can tell by the label on the deck(Ipod ready, XM ready, Sirius ready, Changer ready....ect). Goodluck.

FM Modulator

I haven't found any ways that work. A better option is to use this device http://www.xm-sirius-satellite-radio.com/SIRIUS_FM_Direct_Adapter_p/fmda25.htm to make a direct connection into your radio's antenna plug. This adapter allows your satellite radio to provide clear, static-free sound. It can be difficult to install, however, depending on how hard it is to get to the back of your vehicle's radio.
