We'll since you have been jumping a weak battery with another vehicle to crank the mower you can burn up the battery charging module on your mower leaving you a dead or weak battery making you lean towards the starter but could have been a bad battery from the beginning. If the battery checks good after charging then reinstall if it cranks fine with fresh charged battery there's your problem if after running it the battery looses charge then the mower isn't charging the battery. If this proves to be good then look at the starter. Hope this helps
Check the solenoid if you been jumping it off you could have burned it out and possibly the starter replace the solenoid first thats the cheap route and if that dosnt fix it check the starter if its buzzing or clicking its gone bad feel if it get hot if it does thats the bad sign to look for, replace solenoid, then starter thats my advise need more info messege me back for more, thanks, jamie

make sure you mower deck is not still engaged. that might make it not start with that safety switch.
SOURCE: mower won't start
im sure the switch is bad, trying to jump is a good way to find out if the starter is bad but of course wont start cause of no spark, alot of these have electronic magnetos

The frame of the tractor is the same thing that starter grounds to,so yes ,put the ground any where on the frame or engine block to test the starter. An easier way to test everything is to cross over the large posts on the solenoid with a screwdriver and if it turns then the starter is not the problem. Then you will need to put power from the post on the solenoid that has the battery positive connected to it ,to the post on the solenoid that should come live with the key,if it starts then then you likely need an ignition switch if not you need the solenoid.
