I have a amana refrigerator freeze bottom mo # abb1921dew and the refrigerator is not gettting cold and the freezer will not freeze anything.
Chances are if they are getting cool -
1) the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running
2) Defrost heater has failed
3) Defrost sensor has failed
4) Defrost timer/refrigerator control has failed.
Check for ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is ice, unplug or turn the unit off for 6-8 hours with the doors open (put any food in a cooler with ice to maintain). Note water may come out of the refrigerator/freezer.
Plug the unit back in or turn it back on, close the doors, and check temperature after a couple of hours of operation. If all OK, you will need to have the above tested, or, if you know how to use a multimeter and can read a schematic/wiring diagram, I can instruct you on how to check the above.
Do the following and respond, in order -
1) Can you hear or see the fan running in the freezer section?
2) If not, can you put your fingers on the fan and see if it will twirl?
3) If it does not twirl, is there ice buildup preventing it from twirling?
4) If it does twirl, then the motor is likely may be bad, unless the unit is in defrost mode. If the compressor is running, then the unit is not in defrost, and the defrost motor and associated wiring is the prime suspect.
5) If there is ice buildup, and the fan inside is running, then you will need the wiring diagram (should be somewhere on the unit) or you can get it from Sears Parts Direct.
Specific parts that could be a problem are -
P/N 67002135 Defrost heater
P/N 67003426 Defrost sensor
P/N 67001036 Defrost timer
The defrost sensor and defrost heater are tested by first disconnecting power from the unit, then removing the various panels inside the freezer section to access the evaporator coil. The sensor should be a round metallic knob with 2 wires going into it. You will need to disconnect one of the two wires, then measure the continuity from the disconnected wire of the sensor, to the other wire from the sensor, by using the Ohms X 1000 scale of a multimeter. If the reading is 0 ohms at room temperature, then the sensor is likely bad. If it reads a very high or infinite resistance, then it's probably good.
If that all looks good, locate the defrost heater that is mounted to the evaporator coil, and locate the wire coming from each end. Again, measure between the two wires just as described above. 0 reading means the heater is good, infinite (or no reading) means it is likely bad. Check on the R X 10 and R X 1 scales as well if you get infinite reading at R X 1000.
If all of the above checks out, it's the defrost timer, which looks to operate based on time. It's like a clock, and initiates a defrost cycle every so many hours. If it doesn't run, the unit doesn't defrost and ice buildup get's worse and worse.
You can put all your food in coolers temporarily while your performing the tests.
If the problem is defrost timer/sensor/heater related, and you find you need parts, let the refer defrost, button everything back up (including reconnection of the wires. Use a twist on wire tie if you need to.). Put all the food back in and you can run for some time until you get parts. You will need to manually defrost on occasion until you get parts.

Its defrost problem, the freezer should cool,
then freeze, then defrost cycle should start. In your case freezer is cooling,
then freezing, but its not defrosting. That's why fridge section is not

Yes they are getting cool. I did check for ice build on the back wall and I also vaccumed the grill under the bottom to rid any dust build up as well as vaccumed the vent for the cool air return. I have never used a multimeter but given insturctions i am sure i can try it. Can you instruct me and I will try it. Thanks
