Dell 5110cn printer Tray Detached error 024-946

The upper tray will not insert completely. I have tried substituting the lower tray but it won't insert completely either. I does not seem to be hanging up on anything that I can see.

SOURCE: Dell 3100cn

John here, customer advocate at Dell headquarters. The paper tray on the 3100cn actually has a connector on it that provides power and communication between the main unit and the tray. If there is a communication problem, I would first suggest cleaning the contact points on this connector (on the tray) with a pencil eraser, and if that doesn't work, contacting our support, as the tray may need to be replaced.

SOURCE: getting message to load tray 1 A4. load with

This problem is commonly found across printers, and is not specific to your printer model.

This problem occurs if:

  • You select the Hold mismatched documents option on the Advanced tab of the Properties windows of the printer.
  • The printer driver user interface (UI) plug-in uses the full UI replacement functionality. This means that printer driver replaces the default Windows printer dialog interface, so Windows fails to find certain registry keys to determine the paper type.
Microsoft has a hotfix for this issue for Vista and Windows Server 2008:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971319

If you are seeing this issue on XP, you can do the following:
1. Go to Printers and Faxes from the Start Menu (or type the following command in the Start->Run window: control printers).
2. Right click on the affected printer's icon, and click on Properties.
3. Click on the Advanced tab.
4. Uncheck the option Hold mismatched documents.
5. Some printers have the default paper type as Letter, so please change the printer properties to use A4 as the default
5. Click OK to save the settings change.
6. Wait for 15 seconds, and try to restart your printer job if needed. Usually, Windows will automatically restart the job, once the paper mismatch setting is resolved.
7. Ensure that you make the above printer property settings change on every computer where your printer is installed.

Happy printing!

Paper cassette is not seated correctly. check for paper or objects blocking the cassette path. reinsert the cassette and press Start. keep getting this message. started after printing and installing...

I had this same problem and tried everything (I thought) to fix it. Then I saw the solution at:
http://www.retrevo.com/c/sohohelp/blogs/show/6633/I-just-had-my-espon-artisan-800-replaced-and-the-refurb-keeps-saying-that-the-paper-cassette-is-not-seated-correctly#replyForm

Basically there is a plastic pin that tends to break off and stays in the area where the cassette is loaded. It takes up just enough space to keep the cassette from being pushed in all the way. The solution is to turn the printer off, unplug it, then lift up the printer so the broken pin falls out. Once it comes out, the printer will work fine again.

Dvd/cd tray same problem as others posted here

My experience (with the R280) MAY have some relevance. It turns out that, should you turn the printer power on WHILE the output tray is in the upper (DVD/CD) position, you get an undocumented pattern of error lights, error message, and no ability to print. The cure (for the R280) is: just move the tray to the lower position and leave it there long enough for the printer to complete its power-up cycle and initialization, after which the green POWER light will be solidly on. Then you can shift the tray to the upper position for DVDs, or go ahead and print on paper where it is. Epson "technical" "support" people all deny that this is the way it works, and they want me to return the printer for replacement. I have confirmed the behavior on TWO different R280s. They also deny that their CD-Label software scatters "CDLabel.alb" files whenever you load a photograph as background, but that's another issue, and fortunately non-fatal.

Load Tray 1 024-965

Dell 3100cn Color Laser Printer Error 024-965 - Load Tray 1

Cause:
The "Paper Tray Inserted" sensor buttons are not being depressed by the Paper Tray so the Printer thinks no Tray is inserted even if the Tray is properly inserted.

If you pull out the paper tray and look at the Paper Tray opening, you will see three white vertical sensor buttons along the left-hand side at the mouth of the aperture where the paper tray slides in. These three white vertically aligned push button sensors tell the printer that the Paper Tray is inserted when the paper Tray is
properly pushed all the way in and aligned. It also signals to the printer by noting which button is depressed whether the tray is a Letter Size or Legal Size tray that has been inserted. These buttons which are fully visible as soon as the tray is slid out can move out of place and even fall into the wall of the Tray slot preventing the buttons from sensing the tray.

Solution:
Click it back into place. There should be no play and the buttons themselves should be the only thing that move and then only in an in and out manner. They should move out toward you when the Tray is removed and be pushed in when the tray in slid into the paper tray feedering slot. A pair of needle-nose pliers may be necessary to draw the button module out of the tray slot wall if it has fallen in. Once it is STIFFLY repositioned and the Paper Tray reinserted, reset the printer by opening and quickly reshutting the printer cartridge compartment. This action will recalibrate the printer, shut off the amber error light and resume the current printing job if one was in progress.

Good luck!

Epson R280

You must power on the printer with the catch tray in the lower position. Let it complete its cycle. When it has completed the cycle move the tray to the DVD position, insert the DVD carrier with
your blank to be printed, aligh the arrows and presto there should be no problems. You Must Initiate the printer in the lower position or it will fail every time.

More then likely the paper feed rollers are worn. These rollers are replaceable, and are also included in the maintenance kit.
