So, I replaced the lamp on my BenQ PE5120 about 6 months ago, but forgot to reset the timer. Recently, the projector has been powering down becuase it thinks the lamp hours are 3001... when I tried to reset it per the manual (press exit then auto) it doesn't respond and shuts down. I tried calling BenQ in CA but they are useless... Please help
None of these answers are of any use,, The machine benq5120 once it has exceeded the 3000 lamp hours it will automatically shut down, once it has done this it damages the main board, It needs to be sent to a benq agent to replace the main board, Cost is $500. this is a serious ripoff by benq. ,I would never buy another one because this should not be allowed to happen
Hold down the up arrow key on the Projector for a couple of seconds.
You'll see a on-screen message that appears in one of the top corners that will read - press left or right and Auto or Enter.

Lamp Timer Reset...
Do you have the old bulb ? If so, insert it, switch it on. Switch off after 5 mins. Insert new bulb, switch it on and try resetting as per the manual.
Try to remove and reseat the bulb is about all you can do at this point. Make sure all vent filters are clean also.
1500 on a 2000 bulb is not uncommon. Reaching a bulbs stated life is a **** shoot at best.......
Ok this is what you need to do. You need to be at the projector though. Turn it on and press and hold the exit button for 5 to 10 sec. You will get a menu come up on the tv. now use the arrows to scroll down to reset the lamp hours. If you need you can call benQ at 1-866-600-2367 or 1-949-255-9500 They will be there till 5:30 PT.
Good Luck

Turn machine and and reset it WITHOUT the bulbs in it.
I found out from a guy who works specially with BenQ and other projector companies that you cannot reset any of the BenQ PE models. They are designed this way so that you have to spend money on a new one or send your old one back to the company. Good thing for friends in high places. What a scam!

Welcome to Fixya! This is a Problem with the Main Board inside the Unit. You could try to repair this yourself But, There are no Schematics available for this Unit. Probably should Locate a Qualified Service Center for Repair.
Hi
When the projector is next started you need to press and hold the Exit ^ button on the projector to display the total used lamp time.
Then, Press Auto on the Projector or on the remote control to reset the lamp hour to "0".
Then ,wait about 5seconds to let the OSD close.
Thanks

I suggest you start over. Unplug the projector. Take the new lamp out. Plug it in and turn on so it knows there is nothing in the socket. Don't unplug, just turn off. Install the new bulb again then turn on. Now do a reset. The problem you are having is with its internal security type system. It thinks you are just trying to reset bulb time with original bulb in it. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the link, but it did not solve my problem. The problem is that the projector is not letting me reset the lamp timer. It assumes I have gone past the alotted amount of lamp ours and is shutting down right after start-up

i was hopeful this would work, but onfortunately, still having the same issue and cannot reset the timer .. projector keeps powering off. anyone else have an idea? I tried calling BenQ, but the 1 french tech support guy was useless..
You just gave me the directions from the manual. I tried this and it did not work. Thanks.
I don't think it's the main board as the projector has been working fine... the only reason it is shutting down is because it is reading 3001 hours of lamp usange and doesn't know the lamp is new. There has to be a way to reset the timer before the projector powers down...

There is no "UP" arrow...
Same result, there must be a way to bypass the security on the projector so that I can reset the lamp before the projector shuts off on me... the problem is that the projector thinks the new lamp has 3001 hours on it so it is shutting down before I can do a timer reset...
Are you guys even reading my comments?
This is rediculous..
wow
ummm
"mouse button"? this is a projector not a computer
I tried this way early on as someone had mentioned it before.
