Set plug gap at 0.030 inches -- standard recommendation is to change plug every year. Few do that -- cleaning and re-gapping is what most do. Platinum plugs last longer...

I'm guessing you have a standard Champion J19LM plug, which has a gap of .030. They come pre-gapped from the mfg. and usually no need to adjust them. Most of the plugs on these engines have a .030 gap. There are very few exceptions that use a .020 gap (such as the RC12YC).
