There are several ways to do this. You can follow the instructions in the following article to back up your iTunes library on CD/DVD:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1382
Alternatively, you can use your iPod classic to transfer your music as per the instructions in the following article:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1329
You can also transfer the contents of your iTunes library via a flash drive or external drive, simply copy My Documents / iTunes to your external hard drive / flash drive, transfer it to your Mac, and then drag and drop the entire iTunes folder onto the iTunes icon in the dock and it will automatically import all of your songs, settings, and playlists.

Hi, <div><br /></div> <div>The phone will always have the priority during the sync. So you really don't need to worry about the contacts on your phone being lost. They will always stay there. Also, every time you sync, iTunes takes a backup of your phone first... in case of disaster during sync.</div> <div><br /></div> <div>So, feel free to re-sync, making sure you tick the 'sync contacts' in the itunes info tab first. Once thats done, go ahead and use backup for your contacts.</div> <div><br /></div> <div>You can also export to a safe place, direct from the address book.</div>

After you've done the above recommended solutions, run a permissions repair in Disk Utility.
