I have a small Chefmate fridge that I got at the beginning of college and has since stopped working. It stopped blowing out cold air and instead blows out air at room temperature, keeping anything inside the fridge from getting cold. Any help?
The Chefmate 1.7 fridge uses a thermalelectric device (TED) to provide cold air. There are no moving parts there. The problem is usually in the power supply. That is the PCB on the left side behind the back cover. If the fans are running then your thermostat is bad or the TED is cracked. You can buy these ebay or other places on line. To change one you must carefully remove the large heat sink. The TED itself is only about two inches square. If you decide to replace this unit be sure to get a supply of heat sink glue. Otherwise you will end up with a hot (or cold) spot on the TED possitly causing another crack.
I fixed my chefmate 1.7 fridge by directly applying 12 volts with a laptop charger to the wires leading to the thermoelectric device. If you keep those wires connected to the circuit board, it will power everything else. however, it seems like your problem is in the thermoelectric device. For some reason or another the
compressor may not be starting. If you get right down and check it you
may hear what we call "cycling on the overload". This is a click, a
pause, then a pop which repeats every minute or so. This can be caused
by a cooling fan that doesn't work, a relay, or the compressor itself
burnt out. You can check the fan if present by starting it ten times in
a row, (it should start each time). Depending on your situation you
could try a new compressor starter and if that won't do it
you'll know it's the latter case.
If the compressor does in fact run, in the situation you describe,
you have a more serious hermetic system problem. This is something you
have to call a technician in for to get a better idea of the cost for
repairing this one.

The compressor has a fuse right on it it may be shorted out check the fuse i had a fridge that had the same probloem and replacing the fuse fixed it

I don't hear anything coming from the compressor, should I try starting it over and over again (and by that do I mean plug and unplug again and again)? If that's not the case I take it I should calla technician?
Where exactly is the compressor located (dumb question I know)? I've unscrewed the back of the fridge and everything seems to be intact and fine, just a good amount of dust build up but I cleaned most of it out. Still doesn't quite work but I'm open to suggestions..?
The fuse doesn't look like it shorted (but I'm not exactly sure how to tell). I cleaned all of the dust and debris from the inside but it doesn't look like anything is wrong with it? Any other suggestions?
Mine is not cooling, the fan is not working but there is light when I open the refrigerator. I guess I am lost...
