My LG Dehumidifier is only 2 years old. It worked okay last year, but this year, when the temp warmed up enough to run it, I turned it on. The unit ices up regularly, even though the temperature in the basement is well over 65 degrees (I have a thermometer down there to check). Even though the unit is set to take the moisture out of the air down to 40 or 45%, it consistently reads that there is between 65% and 70% humidity in the basement air, and the air feels damp. The unit runs all day and night and only deposits about 1/2 inch of water in the bucket. In the past 2 days, water has started forming on the top of the unit, and the casing of the unit feels extremely warm on the top sides and top back of the unit, like something is overheating/burning inside. I have shut it off for safety reasons, to prevent a fire from occurring. Does anybody have any solutions or things that I can check? Thanks.

After total frustration, we took it back to the store and got a refund. They told us so many of these have come back, they were surprised they haven't been recalled yet. Thanks anyway.

This will need to be serviced. LG has a 5 year warranty on these models. They usually will tell you of a service center nearby which will service it free of charge since it is under warranty. If you do not live near a service center they may ship you a replacement and you send your old dehumidifier back to them. Make sure you have your reciept when you contact them so they can verify it is 2 years old.

Hi,
There are many reasons for a dehumidifier to not work or collect water.
Here is a tip that I wrote to help people to figure out what is going wrong with their dehumidifier.

Will I damage anything in the unit by hosing the fins off with the garden hose, or otherwise render the unit unusable?
Last night, I confirmed that the fan is running normally, I cleaned out the air filter in the front of the unit, and after the unit sat turned off all day, it seemed to want to struggle on, but this morning, it only deposited 1" of water in the bucket. The humidity control said it was holding at 50% humidity in the basement, and it was set to dry it to 40%.
Should I try running it on Low Speed versus High Speed, after I clean off the fins? Would that make a difference?

I had the same problem. Since the dehumidifier was still under warranty, I contacted LG. After a hassle with their customer service department (people who clearly hate their job or want to do it well), the unit was sent to a repair facility where it was determined that it was unrepairable. So they sent me a new one. No problems so far.
