SOURCE: Toshiba Portege Network Card Upgrade
Why uppgrade it? its cheaper to buy an USB wireless network adapter than it is to take down your laptop and upgrade it.
But it is possible as an answer to your question.

unless you have a wireless router in your home; the msg "windows cannot find any wireless networks"
means any network in your area is too far away, or has a signal so weak your laptop is not picking it up as a viable source.
visit . www.filehippo.com and DL a file called Ccleaner. Run this program - it will clean all your internet caches and junk files, then run the registry cleaner. Reboot.
This can keep you from connecting.
Also try moving to different areas in your home and refreshing your wireless search.
if you are worried your wireless card may not be working properly, take it to a place like mcdonalds, or anywhere that has free wi-fi offered. if you still can not pick up a signal there you have narrowed it down to your wireless adapter.
you can also try this little program. Easy Wi-fi radar found here
