Y-day we were watching a movie and suddenly switches off by itself and then the red light led blinks four times and pauses and then blinks again. I tried to power off and on but no use. I called the customer support and they asked me to contact a nearest service center. Has anyone faced the issue and whats the solution. How bad is the issue. Can this be repaired? How long these Sony guys will take. After repair will it be stable? How costly will the services costs be ?
Those blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices.

it is a bad fan. it also could be a power supply. Quite often the real problem is dirt clogging up the fan(s) to the point that they need to be replaced. Operation of the set in a dirty environment is not a good idea

you can have the inverter board replaced...instead of the entire panel.
KDL 40S2010: inverter part # 178950032, you will also need 2 spacers..part # 289765511
you're looking @ 200-300$ for the inverter and 5-10$ a piece for the spacers.
KDL-46V2500: inverter part # A1251295B
you're looking @ around 500-600 $ for the part

A 4 flash issue means either the back light inverter (power supply) has failed or that one of the fluorescent tubes in the panel has failed. The only way to know for sure is to check the fuses that are on the inverter board. If one or more of the fuses are opne, then it is likely the inverter board is bad. If the fuses all check good, then the panel is at fault. If it is the inverter board, it is a part you could replace yourself; the cost of the board is about $70. If it is the panel, you would probably want to consider replacing the TV, as the repair costs would be over $1000

Since the TV is still receiving power, the problem is going to be with the TV's mainboard. After you unplugged the TV and plugged it back in, you said the power light went out again, so I assume the standby light wasn't flashing again? The flashing standby light is indicating an error code so my suggestion is to contact Sony for service options regardless if there is a warranty or not because service is the only solution to this situation. Don't forget to provide them the error code or 4 flashes repeating.
