I have a Kenmore single 24" gas buit-in wall oven. While I was using the oven the other night, I lost power to my home. When the power came back on, the oven showed error code F8 and would not clear or reset. I have removed the ERC (electronic range control) to try to reset but this did not work. I turned the breaker off at the box and this did not reset the oven either. From what I have seen about the F8 error code I need to replace the ERC, but I don't see how the control would have gone bad just by loss of power. I hate to spend the money on a new one if there is another solution I am not aware of. Please help. Thanks for any advice.
Unfortunately the F8 usually means an EEPROM data shift error. Try turning the power on and off several times. If error continues, you have no choice but to replace the ERC. Check on line for the best price. There is a group in the Chicago area that repairs ERCs. Check them out at www.cgiltd.com The failure of the your power system may have been associated with a surge either as the power went off or when it came back on. It may have been the surge that did the damage.
