LG 37LB1DA flat panel TV

The problem(s) in order: The remote (cable service or LG) would not initially (until after about 10 minutes of TV on time) turn the TV on or off or adjust the volume, although the buttons on the front right bottom of the TV worked fine. Then the picture began to flicker, rolling upwards with a low crackling noise. Now when it is turned on the screen appears 'lightly' lighted with no picture or sound, and most of the time if you leave the unit on within 10 minutes or so the picture will appear and then began the same scenerio as listed above; flicker, roll upwards with low crackling sounds. Any suggestions GREATLY appreciated? FYI, my capabilities limit me to 'pluck and chuck' repairs mostly.

I personally 'believe' it is power problem; either a problem with the PSU or the inverter board??? but I can't be sure. Any suggestions on a test method to determine which it might be?

Hi, I'm not sure exactly how to 'answer' a question here on FY... however I answered my own.

Darn it... I replaced the power supply unit board as there were two capacitors with bulged caps. Now the unit appears to work fine.

Most likely the inverter board is faulty, I think this model has two of them, look on ebay for cheap replacement.

SOURCE: Low volume on LG HDTV

I encountered the same thing using the HDMI interface on my new TWC cable box (Motorola DCX-3200). After a little bit of research, I finally fixed it by changing the digital audio mode in the cable box using this procedure:

1. Be sure the TV is on and connected to the cable box.
2. Using the cable box remote turn power OFF.
3. Immediately press the MENU key on the remote. The USER SETTINGS menu should appear on the TV screen.
4. Select the ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS >>> menu item.
5. The ADDITIONAL HDMI SETTINGS menu will appear.
6. Scroll to the AUDIO OUTPUT item and select this.
7. Change the setting from AUTO to L-PCM.
8. Return to the main page
9. Using the remote, cycle power OFF.
10. When the cable box is turned on again, you should be good to go.

I realize these instructions are specific to the DCX-3200, but there may be a similar setup option available in your cable box as well.

The problem here is that the cable box is by default configured to use Dolby Digital audio, which requires an additional 10dB of headroom to deal with the boosted LFE channel. If the cable operator hasn't taken pains to set the system up correctly (and most haven't, apparently), the digital audio level sent on the HDMI interface will be approximately 11dB down from normal analog line levels on the HDTV channels. Changing to straight linear PCM sets the TV receiver audio level on the HDTV channels to match the levels on the non-HD channels.

The only problem with this fix is that if you intend to feed a Home Theater receiver that uses Dolby Digital processing with the cable box output you will lose the Dolby encoding feature and be forced into straight 2-channel stereo. For a simple installation like mine where I'm just feeding the TV, this fix works fine. If you have a more complex setup that takes advantage of Dolby Digital features (when it's available in program material), you may have to live with the problem.

For a technical reference on why this happens, see http://www.megahz.com/specimages/Dolby/LM100%20Cable%20App%20Note%2011-05.pdf

Hope this is useful.

My TV is frozen on BBC4 "media initializing" what can I do?

Power off the tv. Unplug it from the wall and let it set for a good 5-10 minutes for a hard reset on the tv. If you have a cable box then do the same to it. It sounds like the whole system needs a hard reset.

MY LG TV is taking up to 10 minutes to open a programme - the tv switches on ok but then does nothing for ages

Restore your your TV to Factory defaults by pressing the Menu button on your remote. If this does not solve the problem, you have a Electronic components that are starting to fail and my advice is to take it to the nearest LG Service Center.

My 2013 LG 42pn4500 plasma works fine until you change anything on the remote (volume, inputs, etc). As soon as you touch a button on the remote, the tv powers off for 5-10 minutes then comes back on....

Check the voltages goes to its display panel. Va & Vs voltages should be very accurate. any deviation to these voltages can cause unpredictable error symptoms with the set. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

Is there a way to stop the burn-in mode on a lg tv

In the Menu, there should be options to disable or change how the TV handles burn-in, which might be called Anti Image Retention of something like that.

Runs for 10 minutes and goes off the display. What could be the problem

  1. Go into your “Time” menu in the TV and make sure noting is turned on to automatically turn off the TV.
  2. Make sure the TV’s power cord is installed correctly into the back of the TV and into the wall outlet.
  3. Sometimes using a different remote to channels on the cable/satellite box can cause the TV to power off. This was common with the Motorola boxes because some of their remote codes were similar to LG power off code. This issue was resolved by a firmware update on the TV.
  4. When you power the TV back on and the Channels are erased, then the problem is due to a bad main board and need to be replaced.
  5. Other than that, it could be the power supply and or the main board power off the TV. The only way to tell with a LG service remote and some TV repair tools.
I hope this information has helped you.
Good Luck.

Our LG 37LB1DA is scrolling through channels

I have seen problems similar to yours in the past. Several causes can make the channels change by themselves. Some corrosion on the main board near the channel up/down switches for one. The next common cause is that the EPROM may be failing or a fault with the main control processor. A good test to see if the EPROM is having a problem is to program in all the channels off the cable and then unplug the TV over night and then plug back in the see if any channels are missing.
