How old, at a guess, would the thermostat be?
This will help in figuring out what might be wrong.

probably the fan switch stuck on the fan combination control or improperly adjusted. Turn power off, remove red wire on the relay from the fan motor. Isolate so no short will happen and turn power on.The motor should not run. The fan relay could stick also. You will have to use a volt meter and see if there is voltage on the coil terminals on the fan relay. Put 1 lead to ground and touch only the terminal for the coil on the relay with the other meter lead.It should not have 120volts. If it does it is not the fan relay but possibly a limit sending power to the relay. Try that first thank you J

Hi, welcome to Fixya. If you have spark ignition turn off the power and using sand cloth clean the rod(s) and hood of the spark ignition. If it is a Hot Surface Igniter (glow coil) look on the opposite end of the burners and you will see a rod protruding in to the flame. It's called a flame sensor. Clean it with the sanding cloth. If either of these works then you bought some time but should consider replacing the part fairly soon. Please report back to let us know your progress. Good luck.

Sounds like you got the wrong thermostat.
The orange wire is for the reversing valve, which reverses the flow of refridgerant and changes the system from cooling mode, to heat mode.
If your thermostat has no terminal for the orange wire, (usually labled "O") then you have a thermostat that is not compatible with heat pumps.

The furnace has many safety controls monitoring many parameters. The most like cause of your complaint may be low air flow. The most simple reason would be dirty or too restrictive of an air filter. If the filter is clean that is about as far as you can go without a general knowledge of how that whole system works together.
