We are not able to send & Received SMS from Iphone 5 to any other mobile, but the we can send & received SMS to Iphone 5 only
Under settings/message, make sure "show sms subject" is switched to ON.
Now, try to send SMS agian, but this time, make sure you enter something in the SMS subject field.

nige is right but if you mean that the SMS icon disappeared, go to settings > general > restrictions > enable it and then disable it. it will resolve the problem.

Go into itunes and try syncing your phone. You may be able to move the email from the application. Otherwise delete your mail account, and re install it after backing it up with itunes so you don't lose the contacts. I have 2 of them and mine has done that before, my wifes never has. so it's a quirk, but it was the only way I could get mine running again, it shouldn't affect anything else, just re input the settings for the email account and you should be good to go
Testimonial: "this is great, thanks! I will try it now. "

if neither of you has the lock code, then you should find the person who does, or re flash the phone.
