Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds late

My Yamaha RX-V995 receiver turns on & then powers off 2 seconds later. Do you have any suggestions for fixing this? The receiver is in perfect condition otherwise.

I have the same issue with my RX-V992. I wonder if the new year causes a system problem for these Yamaha receivers? ;-)

  • sbyer Jan 10, 2009

I have the same issue. I noticed one speaker was not working so I pulled everything out and after doing that, the receiver goes on for a couple seconds and then turns off. It is working again now but there has to be a short or something some place. I now have the right speaker on the B speakers and the left speaker on the A's and everything is OK as the receiver is staying on, but something is not right. We have a large party coming over to watch the NFL Sunday and could not imagine that the stereo(we run everything through this to get the 5.1 sound) would not work!

self diag shows dc prt = 0%. What does this mean?

  • yang_fang99 May 25, 2009

My Yamaha RX-V995 was working for several years.
But now, it has this problem:
    1. When I turn on the STANDBY/ON Switch, I can see the
FM stations number displayed.(Because the Input Selection
    is selected as FM. )
    2. After about 2 seconds, I hear a "click" noise, then the
    power is turned off automatically.
During this 2 seconds, I can even change the "Input Selection" from FM to DVD.
But after 2 seconds, it turned off.
I tried many times and same problem.

Can you help me to find out what is wrong and how to fix it?

    Thanks!

I suggest you run self diag.  press [FM/AM] key + [Input mode] key and press the [power/standby] switch.

ps prt = power supply problem
dc prt = shorted output or leakly cap in channel
tmp prt means to hot on heatsink

you'll likely have to measure the resistances of the output FETs to find a short,

Also the unit has a output from the DIAG mode.  Connect a TV or monitor to the [monitor out] video plug on back of unit.  for more options.

Correction: Outputs are NPN and PNP transistors not FETs.

  • wizkid18 Feb 04, 2009

Another thing is that the input selection board can prevent the unit from starting.
The white ribbon closest to the rear on the DVD/TV/VCR1/VCR1  input board to the neighbor board [input selection board, Phone,CD Tape inputs]
Remove one end of the ribbon
Overloading inputs might of blown the switchs
The unit might stay on then

If your a tech check the voltages of the PRD and PRV lines both need to be near zero. the PRD is DC voltage present on outputs (possible shorted output)  PRV is bad voltage from supply.  if both are near zero try the inut disconnect trick above

Well - you may have. BUT try this. Turn the volume all the way down, disconnect the speakers, and power it up. If it comes up OK, you've got a fried speaker (or bad wiring). If not - yep, you fried it.

I have a Yamaha RX-V995 AV receiver. Lately, turning it on is a chore. Sometimes it may take 15-20 attempts before it stays on. The same thing happens with the remote control. Why does this happen?

if you havent already, get in contact with www.yamaha.com service centre -- see if they have a recall for this product .. it should have come with 2 year parts/labour warranty

Yamaha RX-V995: Is there anyway to only listen to

Assuming you have the same Model Variant ( I'm not sure if Yamaha varies model from Country to Country) I just switch mine to effect off ( 2 Channel) to remove the surround component so that only A or B speaker pairs work. That should fix it unless I am mistaken.

Yamaha RX-V995: Remove On Screen Text

Here is a dumb try :). Connect your video source directly to the TV/projector, bypassing the receiver from inserting any messages.

If you are probably going to HD sometime, you would need to do that eventually as 995 doesn't have HDMI/Digital Video switching.
