My kitchenaid mixer 5kpm stopped working. How do I test the phase control board to see if this is the problem.
I am sorry to say but only with a new one, about 30 bucks and five minutes of work, but if your mixer has any speeds working except only high (only high means it is the phase control board) then it is more likely the speed control board is bad rather than the phase board. Can you send is more info on what happened when the mixer started or stopped working. We can be of more help with more info
SOURCE: Hello, my Kitchenaid stand mixer
Check that the brushes are the right way round. They will go in the hole in four positions, but only one is right. Use a torch to check inside the hole. Also check the fuse.
Testimonial: "It worked !!!!, elated that didn't have to disassemble entire mixer to find the problem. A very big thank you Fixya738."

It could be the phase control, or it could be that the governor assembly or associated spring is missing or malfunctioning.
SOURCE: My Kitchenaid K45 mixer only runs at high speed.
I just fixed my 8 yo mixer! Would only work at highest speeds... first took it apart because it was making a terrible noise. Tthrough this site I figured out how to take it apart and replace the grease. Gears were in good shape, but a small nut fell out of the back while I was working on it. Finished putting it back together, found the spot where the nut belonged- holding the metal housing of the motor to the head. I turned it on and all I could get were the two highest speeds so I took the back panel off again and played with the bottom screw- it seems to adjust something on the wire that controls the speed. So take a philips screwdriver and adjust that screw and see if you get all the speeds back.
