How to Hook up HDMI from Comcast Motarola Cable Box

Having problems with HDMI connection from COMCAST Motarola HD Dual TUNER DVR HDMI DCH6416 to Panosonic Home Theater system SA-PT660 to AKAI LCD HDTV. There is only one HDMI Output on the COMCAST box; one on the Panosonic Receiver DVD Player; and only one on the AKAI LCD HDTV, Want to know the best possible connection for the very best picture? Can you make a recommendation before I buy a bunch of HDMI Cables; optical audio cables; etc...? Thanks Mike

Connect the HDMI outputs on your various components to the HDMI inputs on your receiver. Connect the HDMI output on the receiver to the input on your TV. HDMI incorporates digital audio, so no need to buy optical audio cables. If your receiver does not have HDMI inputs for all your components, you will need to make a choice. HDMI = Best, component video + optical audio = second best, S-video+ optical audio = third best

I just bought a Denon 4310 CI and try to connect Comcast--->Denon 4310 Receiver---> TV, and found out the Comcast cable box does not work when properly when connecting through receiver using HDMI connection. The TV only had voice and the picture was going off and on, and sometimes shows only green screen.

I did some search and it seems this is the Comcast issue that does not properly does the HDCP handshak for the HDMI setup.

Here is what you can do:

1- Use component connection from Comcast CableBOX--->Receiver-->TV

2- Connect you cable box directly to your TV and have optical connection from your TV to the reciver, since the optical cable can carry 5.1 sround sound.

I need the exact location of the IR sensor on the front panel of a Motorola DCH6416 cable box.

Do this like mine sweeping. Grab the remote and put it right up to the front of the box. Press the channel up or down keys as you move the remote across the front of the box. You'll get to a point where the box responds well. Then as you go past the point the box will stop reacting so well. Home in to the point where the box responds well. That's your point for the blaster.

My dch6416 will only display a zero?

Sounds like the program may be hung up. First try a hard reset which means you need to unplug it from the power strip. Wait 15-20 seconds, then plug it back in and see if that resets the program. If that doesn't help, try the 800 number that you used when you first turned it on out of the box. Lastly call your cable provider.

How do I connect to Sharp HDTV and Comcast cable

Your dvd recorder only has rca, red white yellow inputs it wont allow you to record in HD, although you can play your comcast box any hd, regular digital through and record. Hook up the comcast box if HD through preferably HDMI if not get one from comcast. The HD box is the only box that allow HDMI, component and regular RCA and some RF out. This way you can play HD to your set but also record through RCA or RF again will not allow for HD record unless its TiVo. Hope this helps

I have a Philips DVDR 3575H. using Comcast's

Try this set up-

Use an RCA audio/video cable for this set up (Yellow/Red/White).

Connect from the Video out (Yellow) connection on the back of the cable box to the Video in on the back of the DVR.

Connect the audio (Red/White) cables from audio out connection on the back of the cable box to the "Audio in" on the back of the DVR.

This should still get you a decent picture but not a true HD picture for your recordings.

When you set the timer to record set it to record either E1 or E2 depending on which input you connected the cable box to and ensure that the cable box is tuned to the channel you wish to record.

*** NOTE: If you keep the HDMI cable connected as you have for the cable box and watch normal TV through the HDMI input on the TV you will get HD programming for your general viewing but still have the option to record with the DVR at a lower quality. ***

Close captioning on HDMI

The TV will not display closed caption with HDMI input. It must either over-the-air (antenna) or composite input for the TV to manage CC.

To get CC with HDMI from your Comcast DVR, you need to configure the cable box. Instructions can be found here:

If you want CC all of the time, this works well. But since you must power-off the cable box to change the setting, switching CC on and off is a real pain.

Your set-up is similar to mine (Sharp Aquos 46" and Comcast DVR). I have the composite output from the cable box going to a DVD-recorder and on to the TV. Whenever I need CC (usually to catch some mumbled dialog), I just rewind the DVR, and switch the TV input to the composite input. Then I switch back to HDMI to continue watching in HD.

No sound on NON HD channels

I had the exact same problem on a brand new Insignia 26 " LCD with DVD. Comcast tech was able to fix it by changing the Comcast box diagnostics. Here is what he did. Using the Comcast remote with the TV on - press power, cable, menu in that order. A comcast diagnostic srceen will appear. Select Additional HDMI options, then audio options. Change the audio options to L-PCM. Press power again to exit the diagnostics. That will fix it and you get to use the HDMI cable.

Sony kdl-40s2000

Probably need a software upgrade. Contact Sony for that information. This would be a common fix in most sistuations when using HDMI.
