I posted this elsewhere by mistake, I have a Hoover Optima which had an E08 fault, the forums suggested a Tachometer issue. I fixed the fault it was just the motor brushes. i made a video including testing the tacho and changing the brushes that cost me a tenner. easy fix hi I had this fault google said it was tachometer fault. the e08 fault on my hoover optima was not the tachometer, i checked it, but the fix was very easy, the motor brushes were worn out and i changed them for 10 quid, I made a video of it its on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xYn-f78GB4U if its any use.

    Big thank you for this. Washing machine (Hoover OPH714DF with E08) working again for under a tenner. Followed your diagnostics on the tacho and it played out exactly like your fix: worn brushes.

E08 = Tacho fault

The tacho coil is on the motor and is fitted at the opposite end of the drive belt where the carbon brushes are. This error says something is wrong regarding the tacho coil but it doesn't specify exactly what. Possibilities are varied so unless you know what you are doing, and unless you can see something obvious like the coil has come away from the motor or the motor or drum has seized up it is probably better to call in a professional.

Resistance readings for tacho coils are usually quite high, so if you don't have a sensitive enough meter it could appear to be open circuit when in fact it's reading over 150 Ohms or more and may be ok.

In conjunction with a magnet fitted on the end of the armature shaft each time the motor does a revolution it can be counted by the software or pcb through the tacho coil. This information is used to judge and control the speed of the motor at all times.

If the coil is open circuit the washing machine would lose al control of the motor and in the past the motor would often spin uncontrollable causing damage to the washing machine. These days if an open circuit or missing tacho coil (they can fall off the motor) is detected the machine will stop working and report an error code.

SOURCE: Hoover washing machine - door won't open and drum

1. please provide the model number for the washer
2. this is a timer error code and it seems that it locked the door during the spin cycle.
There may be a malfunction sensor or you will need to unplug the washer to reset the washer to complete the cycle.
Something electronic has caused the washer to shut down to protect the electronic circuit. You may have a defective timer.

SOURCE: why does my hoover wmh168d bang so loudly

It could be a problem with the balance of the machine. Make sure it's level on the floor. Could also be a problem with the suspension that supports the drum. Usually there are springs at the bottom of the drum and a lump of concrete at the top to keep the machine stable. They could be loose or broken. Also, when you open the door just have a look at the drum, see if you can lift it around the entrance, if it feels easy to move up and down without moving the rest of the machine then the drum bearings could be broken / loose.You really need an engineer to take a look, unless you know someone like a friend who could look for you.

Error code E08 hoover tumble dryer

Error code E08 means overloading (too many clothes in the drum). Don't worry, just reduce the load size by removing some of the garments in the drum.

What is error code 7 on hoover wmh168d?

Louise, E07 means "Motor fault. check motor, tacho and associated wiring, check drum has not jammed" Presuming you can spin the drum by hand, I'd put my money on the carbon brushes in the motor being worn out and needing replacement
