My indesit w123s washing machine is blowing the 13amp fuses about every 3 to 4 washes no water leaks or short circuits visable could it be the motor ?
Can't promise it isn't the motor, but there are other suspects (maybe more likely, and probably cheaper to fix). Few questions: 1. Do you have a RCCB (also called an RCD, Residual Current Device, Current Operated Earth Leakage Trip etc.) protecting your ring mains? (How to look for one: If your wiring is less than fifteen or so years old, it might be built into the main switch on your fuse box, if a little bit older, you want to look for a separate box - usually grey, about the shape and size of an After-Eights box, with a big switch and a test button on). 2. What stage of the cycle does this happen at? 3. If it always happens during the "wash" phase, can you make it happen at all if you run a series of cold wash cycles? (don't need to have laundry or detergent in the machine to test this). A.
The thing I have at the back of my mind is the possibility that the heater element is breaking down. If you're RCD protected, this fault will take the trip out long before it gets to the fuse blowing stage. If you're not, the fuse is the first line of defence.
If it only goes during the "wash" phase of the cycle, never during any of the rinses, and never during a cold wash, I'd be very suspicious of the heater. If it doesn't match that pattern, then you need to look for something else.
If you haven't already done this while checking for shorts, give the drum assembly a good shoogle on its supports. Watch where the moving parts pass close to fixed cabling, and check for chafing there. Look also at the bits of cable which bridge the gap between fixed and floating assemblies.
In short, unless the (expensive) motor doesn't sound like it's running right, check everything else first.

Hi - had a similar problem with about 3 different makes of washing machine - the RCD switch on the main household fuse box was continually tripping . Nobody could give me a right answer . Eventually ended up with a Hotpoint . Felt sorry for the delivery guys from the electrical retailers having to keep dragging machines in and out .
Thank you for contacting Fixya.com.
Please check the following causes for your problem:-
Check whether your washing machine is getting power. Or has a fuse blown or is a circuit breaker tripped. Also if the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it. Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse.
Please get back to us if you have any further query.
Have a nice day.
