There is probably another little button near the trigger that you also need to push in order to pull the trigger. Kinda like having to push on the brake before shifting out of park.

According to the manufacturer... Saw has a gravity-fed oiling system and it is normal for oil to “slowly” seep when saw is not in use. Empty tank after each use to prevent seepage. If you empty before you store it that should do the trick. I hope this helps!

Sounds like either the motor is going or that you need a new chain. Is the chain old and dull and is it difficult to cut wood? If so I would try running the saw without cutting and see if the motor smokes. If so the motor may be on it's way out. If you smell an electrical motor winding smell, it's probably time for a new chain saw. I don't know that I would get a new motor for yours as it probably at least $50 and you might want to consider going to another brand like Poulan. Hope this helps!
