Got a new vistaquest dv7 camera for my son. When I transfer video files (recorded in either mpg or cif) to my laptop, they appear to be avi-formatted files (catalogued as pict001.avi for example), but when I attempt to open them, play them with windows media player, or edit them in windows movie maker or even the videoimpression 2 software the camera came with, they behave as audio files only. I can get the audio to work but no video appears. Movie maker recognizes them as audio files only. I tried everything I can think of.
It is likely that the files are encoded with DIVX, you can download the Divx plugin for windows Media playere here.

watch your options on the install to avoid those pesky toolbars
Reason 1. The AVI file could be damaged.
Reason 2. Maybe the AVI media player is failed to function properly.
Reason 3. Probably the faulty AVI codecs cause errors.

I have the same problem. I downloaded videos from the same camcorder unto my computer and, when played, they acted only as audio files. Where did the pictures go? Should I use a certain program to open these files for some reason? (other than windows media player which is the program that was used).
its the same for us exept we have a mac. can someone plz help.
