HI
I have 2 Milwaukee drills, and they both went out on the same day!! One simply stopped running (as if the battery suddenly died-- but it was charged), and the other went out, and when I tapped on it it would start again. Unfortunately it wouldnt run in the vertical position, and finally just stopped working all together after about 20minutes of this. I would like to repair them, It seems like it should be an easy fix. They re bout great drills, and I cant bring myself to just chuck a big$ item like these are!!
Thanks!
This may not be as easy as you think. The first one my have trouble with the trigger switch, but it could be the motor. Without checking continuity, or replacing them individually you will not be able to tell which one is bad.
Another problem could be the brushes. That is what is most likely wrong with the 2nd one. Remove the 2 black screw caps on the rear of the drill, and remove the carbon brushes. Do they look worn? If so they will need to be replaced. If this is the case the motor may be breaking down, and wearing the brushes down too fast.
The good news is that Milwaukee Tools, offer a 5 year limited warranty, If you have a receipt, or can read the serial number. Take it in, or mail it to a service center. They will take care of it for you if they are less then 5 years old.
Sorry this model drill does not have brushes that are easily accessible. Also Milwaukee does not sell the brushes for this tool, individually.
You may be able to disassemble the housing and check visually at the back of the motor. The brushes are able to contact the motor armature with the help of a spring for each brush. Check to see if the spring is still pushing. If the area is blackened excessively replace the motor.
