there is a problem with the touch sensitivety to the screen if it keeps happening contact tech support and tell them if they can not fix the problem they will more than likely give you a new tablet in return for the old one after you recieve the new one only if the tablet is still under the usual one year warranty.
In my tablet, in settings, under 'Developer Options' in 'User Interface' there is 'Pointer Location' which is a screen overlay which shows current touch data. To me what you are seeing sounds exactly like this function when it is selected. Hope this is the answer you need.
Whoever used the term "calibrating an iPad" may have been referring to touch screen calibration.
Some touch screens need to be adjusted, or "calibrated", or the device may act as if you touched a different spot on the screen than you did. The iPad screen does not need to be calibrated. If the iPad make a mistake about what spot you touched, the error may be due to:
a defect or damage;
a screen protector;
a cold finger;
a hand that is holding the iPad and inadvertently touching the screen;
a finger that is inadvertently touching the screen.
