F28 code with no red light showing for the locked door. The washer would lock the door and then become stuck in the locked position. I had to reach up and pull the latch release manually to get it to open, but then the same thing would happen. I eventually could feel another wire was up inside there and not connected to anything. I had to remove the top of the washer along with the door and door trim ring. Then removed the front control panel (the front panel swings out from the left side and is more or less kind of hinged on the right. Dont swing it too far just enough to pull it straight out after the left side is 4 to 6 inches out. Leave it plugged in and set it on top of the washer) I then removed the screws to the steel front panel that is around the door. Remove the latch and pull it out the right side just enough to get at the broken wire and the clip it came out of. I soldered the wire back onto the clip and reassembled the washer. It is working great now. Hope that helps someone else. I was almost ready to buy some expensive parts that would not have fixed the problem in my case.

Turn off the power. Remove the detergent tray. Reach in the slot where the detergent tray fits and look for a lever. Pull it and replace the detergent tray. Turn power on. Good luck.

Must be a problem with this washer, because mine is only a year old also and keeps showing F 28. You start the wash and the door locks, then unlocks, then locks again and doesn't continue with the wash and then blinks on the screen F 28. This is so frustrating when money is low and your new washer is already screwed up. I'm going to get a hold of Whirlpool is and see what they can do.

F28 is a serial bus error from the CCU (Central Control Unit) to the MCU (Motor Control Unit).
All you need is some Electronics contact cleaner spray and a 1/4 inch socket to remove the top of the machine and the back of the machine.
The CCU is the computer looking box at the top front right hand corner.
Find connector M13, (has red marking on it and only 3 wires) disconnect it by pushing the retainer tab back and pulling gently on the connector.
Spray the contacts of the connector and computer with connector cleaner.
Then re-assemble connector.
The MCU is in the back lower left corner.
Find the connector with 3 wires and red mark, and remove this connector in the same way you did the other, spray it and re-install.
Put the back and top back on.
