I have a KDL52w5100 that has a problem turning on. At one time I had a problem with vertical lines showing on the TV. More specifically the TV would turn on, then at a point the picture would freeze and I would just have vertical lines. I tried different inputs with the same results. I replaced the TC board and that problem seems to have disappeared for the most part (happened briefly a couple of times but I turned the TV off/on and I was good. Since replacing the board I now have this problem: In the AM when I try to turn the TV on using the power button, I will get the green power light and the SONY emblem on front lights up but the TV will not turn on. If I use the remote the TV just keeps trying to turn on and the power light turns red. The only trick that works is unplugging the unit, plugging it back in and then turning it on using the power button. Any thoughts on what I should check/replace next?

When the lamp fails in this unit, often the thermal fuse opens. The error code is 6 blinks. To replace this part requires a great deal of deal of disassembly.

4 times blink error shows that any FAN is not running in TV as there are 4 fans in this TV.
Please check fan connectors and make sure all are plugged securely.

It sounds like an Intergrated Circuit (IC) has fried. Even on a good day, this is not something you can attack at home. As a tech (and as an owner of that model samsung), I'd need a map & tools to know what's going on. Your best bet in this situation is to contact Samsung and let them recommend an authorized service center in your area. Sorry I can't be of more help, but this is a rather serious problem.

I would suspect one or more of the miniature flourescent backlight lamps. One way to confirm this would be to power up the set with a grayscale image at 40 to 60 IRE. If one or more lamps is failing to light, a slightly darker horizontal area in the grayscale will give it away. Unfortunately, Sony will not supply any of the backlight components apart from a new LCD panel. Sorry.

sorry. Hope you still have a waranty. This is not an uncommon problem with the sony's. 99% chance that the panel went out. Could also be a balance board issue, but usually not. Call Sony for an authorized repair center
