1.Determine whether your Kenmore refrigerator model's coils are located at the bottom-front of the refrigerator or on the back panel. If they are on the bottom front, remove the plastic grill kick-plate by pulling it up and lifting it out.

2.Vacuum your Kenmore refrigerator coils thoroughly to remove all of the dust and debris.

3.Use a coil brush available online or at any hardware store. Insert the brush between the refrigerator coils and pull it back out. The coil brush will remove dirt from between the coils that a vacuum will not.

The refrigerator stop getting cold, the ice maker is not being used so that canot be the problem, what do you think it could be.

Adjust the thermostat inside the refrigerator to a higher number setting. The higher the number, the colder the temperature inside. Clean the condenser coil. It is either on the back or under the refrigerator. Clean it by vacuuming the coil. Remove the plastic grill that is under the front door to gain access to the coil. It just pulls off. If these things do not help, the sealed system is low on refrigerant. You will need a repairman to add refrigerant to the sealed system.

Typically on most household refrigerators there is a kick plate in the front of the refrigerator on the bottom, that usually is just clipped on either pulls out or lifts up and pulls out. If there is nothing there, then unplug the refrigerator and there is usually a handful of screws that hold a access panel on, it will be towards the lower part of the refrigerator. Remove the screws and the access panel.
(be sure the unit is unplugged for safety)

from there the condenser coil is typically is located towards the front of the refrigerator, you can use either a shop vac, or a coil cleaning brush available at a hardware store, and clean the condenser coil off.
Then re install either the panel or the kickplate, and plug the refrigerator back in.
Be sure not to disturb the wiring or the piping and you should be fine, if unsure of what to do, then I recommend not doing it......

I just bought a used refridgerator and it seems to make a buzzing, rattling noise at times then stops. Then it will start again later. The girl I bought it from said the coils may need cleaned or it may...

Hi there

The noise is a very annoying thing in refrigerators but to stop these please do the following.

Pull the refrigerator away from the wall and unplug it.

Find the condenser coils on the refrigerator and clean them. These coils disperse heat, so cleaning them improves the effectiveness of the refrigerator which helps to stop the refrigerator from buzzing. To locate the coils, you will need to check your refrigerator owner's manual as they may be rear mounted or floor mounted coils.

Remove the dust build up on the condenser coils with a vacuum cleaner or condenser brush. If there is a large amount of build up on the refrigerator coils, you can use mild soapy water to more thoroughly clean them.

Clean the grill on the front of the refrigerator as it will also help eliminate the noise. The grill on front of the refrigerator should snap off and on, but check for screws first. Then pull firmly toward you to remove the grill.

Do these troubleshoots and the buzzing should stop

Cleaning

Pull the plastic cover off of the front unit at the very bottom. This is referred to by some as the "kick plate". Upon removing the kick plate, you should see the coils (may need flashlight) and then simply using your crevice tool on your vacuum, clean them off.

Not blowing cold in freezer or refrigerator. compressor is hot to touch, fan is blowing

HI. The condenser coils dissipate heat. If dust and debris accumulate around the coils, your refrigerator may not be able to cool properly, it may run continuously or it may stop completely as a result of an overheated compressor. You should clean rear-mounted coils once a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Refrigerators are heavy, never tip one forward or backward. Never attempt to move a refrigerator without an assistant. Vacuum or brush the coils. If coils have a filmy build-up, use warm soapy water to clean them. Take care not to spill or drip water onto the electrical components of the refrigerator. You should clean floor level coils at least twice a year. Unplug the refrigerator before cleaning. Vacuum or brush the coils. Remove the grill from the front of the refrigerator and use a vacuum with a wand attachment to remove any dust and debris. The grill should snap off and on. Pull firmly toward you and possibly upward to remove the grill. If it does not come off with a modest effort, check for screws or retaining clips that may hold it in place.

Compresor is hot and refrigerator it doesn't work

HI. This will occur if the condenser coils are dirty. This will inhibit the coils from dissipating heat.

Roper coils need cleaning

I do not have info specifically on a Roper fridge, but:

Pull the unit out so you can get to the rear, bottom section. Unplug the unit. There should be a panel at the bottom that can be removed by removing several screws and lifting the panel away.

You should be able to see the (black) compressor and "behind" that are the coils.

Coil freezing up

An a/c coil freezes up because there is no heat load on the coil. It's either dirty, low on refrigerant, filter dirty, the fan is not running. Defrost the coil by leaving the unit off until defrosted. If the coil is accessible you use a coil cleaner thru a chemical sprayer and spray coil. Do not use the stuff they sell at Home Depot or Lowe's they don't work. get some from an a/c contractor or supply house. After with the chemical sprayer rinse the coil with water. You may have to repeat a couple of time to get it good and clean. If you can not access the coils then you will need to pull and clean the coils. To do this you'll need to pump down the refrigerant into the condenser coil and cut the evap. coil out of the system clean and reinstall. With this you'll need refrigerant gauges and know how to solder and have access to refrigerant. The same if your low on refrigerant you,ll need access to gauges and refrigerant. Depending on system it's either R-22 or R-410 refrigerant.

GE side by side refrigerator

Try pulling toe plate at bottom front and clean the condenser coils. If they are plugged, it will cause this to get hot. If you can't see coils in front remove back panel and clean coils there.. Give it time after cleaning to see if it helped. If no change, remove back panel and check to see if fan is turning when the compressor is on.
Also check for something caught in fan blade, such as a dead mouse or a dead coupon. If fan isn't turning, may need condenser fan motor. If still need help, give us a model number. Found in refrigerator compartment at top on side walls.
