IMac 27inch won't boot up

  • Paul Bade Sep 29, 2012

Do you get a gray screen with a flashing question mark in the center, or some other display? Do you hear a start-up chime, a series of tones, or at least a fan running? Does it sound normal, but show a black display? Your response will help us shorten the list of possible faults to check.

Power issues After ruling out display issues, and if your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps.

  1. Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device
  2. If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power, try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter. If you're using a Mac notebook, see Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
  3. Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to your computer. This includes things like printers, USB hubs, or mobile devices.
  4. Hold down the power button for ten seconds. Then, press the power button again to see if the computer turns on.
  5. Reset the SMC.
  6. If you recently installed memory or a drive in your Mac, make sure it's compatible, supported, and installed correctly. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive to see if the issue persists afterwards.
  7. If you're still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ (available in some countries only).

SOURCE: my computer won't boot from the new disk warrior

If you try to use a diskwarrior CD (as I just did on my iMac running 10.7.3) you will get 3 beeps. I used the DVD version they sent me and it works. It takes a really, really long time to boot, so be patient.

My iMac froze and won't reboot

Your question is incomplete. Your imac froze and wont reboot. What you see on screen when you start it? Do you see a spining wheel or a folder sign with a question mark or a blue screen? If yes then it's either corrupt/damaged osx or bad hard drive.
Good luck.

My mac won't start

Reseat memory, dirty contacts could be to blame. If not remove one stick at a time and see if it boots. A stick may have gone bad.

Software CD won't work in the iMac

Hi
Thats because there still are no available drivers for your iMac's Operating System platform.
Click on the link below for the available drivers for downloads,
View the compatibility of your printer's drivers,

I have a apple Imac g5 that only boots colored screens

The first thing I would do is boot up in safe mode see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455 this will boot the imac up without extensions on that includes video extensions which could be the source of the problem. See if the screen works after this, if it does it could indicate that the either video card is not operating properly or one of the drivers isn't. If you then search on google for your model of card and see if this is a known problem and you could find a work round.
If it boots up as you have described it in your email it's a possiblity that the card is no longer functional and it will be expensive to repair.
