I checked. There is no sheet of any kind inside or below the door of my Whirlpool dishwasher.
In any case, opening up the non-washing washer revealed that the filter behind the chopper assembly was clogged with food. I cleaned it off, put the thing back together again, and it was washing dishes again, until about three days later. I took it apart again and found food clogging the filter behind the chopper. I thought the chopper wasn't chopping, so I replaced it. It was around $16. About three days later it wasn't washing dishes again.
Further examination (dis-assembly of the sump motor and impeller) revealed that the end of the impeller (which is designed to engage the chopper) had broken off, thus the chopper no longer spins with the sump motor. The impeller costs about $20 and isn't too hard to replace, as long and you keep track of what you've dis-assembled and put it back together in reverse order.
On whirlpool dishwashers, the sump motor drives the impeller (it's connected via the threaded end of the motor shaft) and the impeller, in turn, drives the chopper. The chopper you can replace from inside the tub, without removing the dishwasher from its home or taking apart the sump assembly. But save your $16, as that probably isn't what is wrong... The impeller, being screwed onto the motor shaft, requires complete removal of the dishwasher so that you can completely remove the base assembly that holds the motor assembly.

Turn the thing a little further and pull UP. It'll come out. You've got to put some muscle into it!

I just had a simliar problem with all spray arms and solved the problem by cleaning the food screen. Basically, it takes water pressure to make the spray arms rotate. Before assuming there is a failed part, make sure the spray arms are getting max water pressure by checking the food screen. Here's how I serviced my Kenmore dishwasher.
The lower arm assembley is removable by twisting the center plastic piece. It's not very tight and should come off easily by twist with a pliers (but gently). Then remove the tubing to the upper arms (Two screws). Then remove the bottom drain cover (4 star screws).
Under the drain cover are two more things to remove. One, a plastic plate over the bottom of the water drain (1 screw). Two cover to the food screen (1 screw). After removng the screw to the cover of the food screen, it will be a little difficult to remove that cover. The side opposite the screw requires releasing a catch with a screw driver. It's hard tell which way it releases, just keep trying different ways until it pops up. The cover may stick a little beacuse of the food stuck in the screen.
Once you have access to the screen, the screen can be removed by pulling on the center shaft (spring loaded) with a needle nose pliers and lifting the screen straight up. (Note: there maybe a blade next to the screen used to braek up the food.)
After removing the screen, clean it (I used a plastic scrub brush).
Reassembly is performaing these steps in the reverse order.
