Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L300-1BV
OS: MS Vista Service Pack 1 Home Premium
Wireless Adapter: Realtek RTL8187B Wireless 802.11b/g 54Mbps USB 2.0 Network Adapter
I have been able to connect wirelessly for short periods of time, and other laptops/mobile devices can connect fine. My new laptop (the above) occasionally can connect but otherwise lists my router but returns ''Cannot Connect''. All the settings are correct (I have tapped them in time and time again) and the laptop is right next to the router.
I have (what MS say are) the latest router drivers, but in the list of items the adapter uses there is a spelling mistake : ''Realtke RtlProt WLAN Protocol Driver''. I'd guess that this makes no difference - unless the actual protocol has mistakes in it too?
Thanks.
Hello b... couple things.
First; see if going into Control PanelNetwork Connections and disabling the wireless network connection, then enabling it again fixes it. If it does then you have a work-around...
Second; there was a Realtek driver update offered by Windows Update. If that has
been installed (Control Panel-Programs and Features-View Installed Updates)
roll it back to the previous driver through Device manager and get the
update direct from either Toshiba or Realtek.
See if that helps.
This seems to be happening with that Wireless card and Vista... let me know what happens please.

Updated Realtek driver (downloaded from Toshiba). Upgraded the router's firmware (Netgear Version 3). Netgear have an advice note that lower versions of their firmware wouldn't maintain connections with newer wireless cards (especially as our router is set not to broadcast it's SSID and only connect to certain MAC addresses with a WEP key - it left Vista looking a bit confused).
Hope this helps anybody in the same boat.
