EOS 1n will not Autofocus

Just bought on ebay, have not shot any film with it. But just looking in the view finder w/ EF Lens on AF, I have noticed that the camera will not Autofocus. Do I have to have it loaded before it can autofocus?? also looking in the viewfinder, the focus light does not work, even with manual focus......Thanks

Is the autofocus button on the lens set on AF position.
If it is then remove the lens once and reinstall and then try.

SOURCE: Canon EOS Rebel T2 300X Won't Autofocus or Take Picture

This may be a problem with the autofocus itself, try the following:

  • If you have a different lens, see if the autofocus works with the other lens. If it does, there may be something wrong with your lens.
  • Clean the contacts (the little metal things between the lens and the camera) with a slightly moist, lint-free cloth
  • Try replacing the battery in the camera
If none of this helps, you may have to take your camera to a qualified repair person to get them to have a look at it.

Good luck!

SOURCE: autofcous and manual focus do not work

excuse me if this is a dumb question but you wouldn't believe the things people do...., but in manual mode are you actually manually trying to move the lens? as manual mode means just that you take hold of the lens and turn it. If it wont turn it sounds like the lens is jammed and needs returning/repairing.

if taking hold of the lens and turning it works for manual mode, take the lens off and clean the gold contacts on both the camera and the lens with a pencil erasor this may bring the auto focus back to life, switch back to auto and try again, if not its most likely the lens but take the body to a canon store and try another lens just to double check the body is ok

drop me a line if i can be of further assistance

best of luck

Try removing the camera lens and VERY CAREFULLY raise the mirror in the camera. There is another small mirror behind the main mirror that relects the light for the autofocus to work. If the spring on that small mirror is broken (common problem) it can cause the symptom you are experiencing.

You can also check it by aiming the camera at an object above your head with the camera pointed up since that will hold the little mirror in place by gravity. If it works pointed up the spring is the problem.

You can get the spring from Canon. The part number is CS2-6367-000. Canon's parts dept phone number is 1-732-521-7230.

SOURCE: Canon Rbl XT out of focus in viewfndr when shutter half way down

Hello,
It's possible that the reason the "pictures turn out fairly good" is that your f-stop is set high enough that even though the image isn't properly focused, you have enough depth-of-field to bring your subject into "near focus". Does your lens try to focus back and forth when you half-press the shutter? If not, double check that the lens is in autofocus and not manual focus. You can also try cleaning the contacts between the lens and camera. Take the lens off, and then one-at-a-time clean the contacts on both the lens and the camera, using a clean pencil eraser. Gently rub the contacts. Be sure to hold the item upside down so that the eraser debris falls on to the table, not into the camera body or lens!

If none of this helps the autofocus may have become damaged and you need to have the lens and camera looked at by Canon Repair.

SOURCE: autofocus function will not work on Canon 17 40mm 1.4 EF lens

Since the problem is limited to this lens, I highly doubt that you would have to replace the cameras AF sensors.
Since you only have the problem with this lens, I am afraid that you will have to get the lens repaired. Is the lens also 3 years old? Did you get it with MACK extended warranty?
Sometimes, Canon do these kinds of repairs for free, if they discover that there was some manufacturing error that caused it to fail. So be sure that you get it to a certified canon workshop.
I hope this helps,
/Chris

Brand new out of the box 18-55 lens won't focus No stabilization. fits my t2 the 55-250 works fine I have cleaned the contacts and made sure the af-m switch is on af It will take photos in manual...

Okay let me get this straight, you mounted a Canon EF-S 18-55mm lens on a Canon T2. That's the Canon Rebel T2 right a film camera? If so you just can't do that because you mounted a digital lens on a full frame camera it's a wonder it allowed a manual shot the A6 is an error code for Transmission can not be made. The reason the 55-250 works is because it's a film lens or "Full Frame" where as the EF-S lens is for an APS size sensor with a 1.6 factor.

I was wondering if lenses from a Canon 35mm camera will work with this camera?

When choosing a lens for your Digital Rebel XT, look for EF or EF-S on the lens. Film lenses with the EF designation will work on your digital camera, but AF or older lenses will not fit. Trying to force them on may damage your camera.
When using a film lens on a digital camera, there will be a 1.6x conversion factor. This means that a 50mm lens will be closer to a 70mm lens in reality.

I just purchased a Sigma 2.8 f=28mm for canon but I don't know if it will fit my Canon EOS 500 N (same as Rebel G) 35mm SLR film camera. Can you help with this question.

Canon EOS 500N has an EF lens mount, so all lenses with Canon EF mount will fit. All lenses with MF and EF-S won't fit. If you purchased Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX, then it have EF mount and will fit EOS 500N.

Ol filme camera lenes fit mycanon ef-s digital eos 1000D

Hello,

are your old film lenses FD or EF mounts ?
(Is the old film camera a Canon ?)

EF will fit EFS fine. My expeariance is with the EOS 3000 EF film camera (2002 -etc) and these work fine.

If you have Canon FD, there are some lens converters out there however I have not seen any yet which electrically connect and there is no AF. All Manual focus.

I have used Olympus OM mount adaptors with manual focus to mount older/different mount lenses with some success (As an example).

Best idea is to search ebay for your mount converters.

I can not get my canon eos rebel k2 focus on a

Autofocus is activated by pressing the shutter button halfway, be shure to have a EF lens in the camera, otherwise it won't make autofocus, put camera on full auto mode or "sports mode" (the running guy) and the focus settings on redictive AI Servo AF: Continuously tracks subject movement and achieves focus before the exposure starts.

Autofocus on 300mm 2.8 IS not working with 50D

Make sure the AF/MF mode button on the lens is set to AF.
What focusing mode do you have selected in the camera? Single Shot, AI focus or AI Servo?
If Custom Function "C.Fn IV -1 Shutter button/AF-ON button" is set to option 2 or 3, the AF will start when you press the AF-ON button.
I hope this help you!

Cannon lenses

All canon EF lenses (and compatibles e.g. Sigma EX) can be used with both analog and digital  EOS-bodies. Depending on the sensor size (usually smaller than a 35 mm negative) a crop-factor due to the smaller field of view must be considered.  Example: Canon EF 50mm/1.8 lens used on a digital EOS (40D, crop factor 1.6) equals a 80mm lens (50mm x 1.6) compared to analog cameras using 35mm film. Some digital EOS-models can also use EF-S lens-series.
