My laptop will play store bought CD's/DVD's but if I put in a blank one it won't recognize it's there. It also makes an odd sound. The only way I can describe it is like it's trying to engage or it's not sitting in the carriage properly.
Hi have u tried TDK discs... cheers
Is the DVD/CD unit definitely a CD/DVD rewriter? Because if it isn't it will not allow you to put pictures/media etc onto a disc, if it is definitely a rewritable unit, please check that the software/driver programme that burns the media to the discs is up to date & complete... I hope this helps, please contact me further if I can help I will be more than happy to...
SOURCE: Optiarc DVD RW AD-5540A (Code 39) Device Driver may be missing or corrupted
Hi, the error code that you have is a known issue from Microsoft that needs a registry tweaks. Error code means "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)". You can click on this link for your reference http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
To resolve this problem, remove the affected filter drivers. To do this, follow these steps:1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit in the Programs list.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
This will surely help you resolve your issue. Good Luck!!!
Thanks
SOURCE: with blank DVD/CD computer crashes
My computer used to do this until I installed more RAM. Seems those video writing programs want to hog all the system RAM which causes the crash. I have at least 1 GB RAM minimum in all my computers. Hope this helps.
SOURCE: dvd drive unable to read empire total war disc
I have the same problem. Some DVD drives seem to have a problem with the protection on the Empire disc (and other games). Might have to do with this Securom/Windows thing.
But here is my solution
1. Install Steam
2. Make Steam install the game from the disc, using its local EXE.
i.e. run:
"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install E:

Starting Steam.exe from your HDD rather than the setup.exe from the DVD bypasses this disc protection issue.
Alternatively, you can enter the CD-KEY in Steam and download the game from the Net.
Either way, Steam saved the day although everyone was complaining about using it for Empire
