Acer aspire 5000 operating system not found I tried the restore process using the 4 cds and it still says "Operating system not found". I installed a second hard drive to see if it was the HD but is still said "Operating system not found".
You probably have a mbr virus.
Download The following iso listed
below. It is the latest version of the Kaspersky rescue disk. You need
to burn it to a CD with a program like Imgburn (Which is also FREE like
the iso file). Then you need to boot from the CD and run the scanner.
It should fix you right up.

sounds as if the HDD crashed. No fix but to replace HDD. Sometimes putting it in the freezer 2 hours and then letting it thaw works, but after multiple attempts and the same failure, you will need a new HDD.

Sadly, you can't just download a system restore disk.
Some computers these days have a secret system restore partition, I read that you need to press ALT+F10 to access it, but I can't confirm if that is correct. Try pressing that combination just before you usually get the message.
If the laptop is still under warranty, you probably want to contact Acer.
I decided to check the Acer website (http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?siteid=7293&areaid=7&website=AcerPanAm.com/us) and it appears you can buy a new recovery CD, so I guess there may not be a free solution..

there are 2 ways for doing this
1) Fast and easy without backup disk just do this
Acer: When you turn on the laptop and see the Acer logo screen, hold the ALT key and press the F10 key (you need to do this before the Acer logo disappears).
2) If the method above doesnt work u can do it thru backup disk u have got when u purchased ur laptop u shud have made it thru Erecovery software.
Pls rate me FIXYA for help !
