You probably have a mbr virus.

Download The following iso listed below. It is the latest version of the Kaspersky rescue disk. You need to burn it to a CD with a program like Imgburn (Which is also FREE like the iso file). Then you need to boot from the CD and run the scanner. It should fix you right up.

sounds as if the HDD crashed. No fix but to replace HDD. Sometimes putting it in the freezer 2 hours and then letting it thaw works, but after multiple attempts and the same failure, you will need a new HDD.

Sadly, you can't just download a system restore disk.
Some computers these days have a secret system restore partition, I read that you need to press ALT+F10 to access it, but I can't confirm if that is correct. Try pressing that combination just before you usually get the message.
If the laptop is still under warranty, you probably want to contact Acer.
I decided to check the Acer website (http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/webpage.cfm?siteid=7293&areaid=7&website=AcerPanAm.com/us) and it appears you can buy a new recovery CD, so I guess there may not be a free solution..

SOURCE: restore factory settings

there are 2 ways for doing this

1) Fast and easy without backup disk just do this

Acer: When you turn on the laptop and see the Acer logo screen, hold the ALT key and press the F10 key (you need to do this before the Acer logo disappears).

2) If the method above doesnt work u can do it thru backup disk u have got when u purchased ur laptop u shud have made it thru Erecovery software.

I have acer 5620 extensa how to install system s/w in xp operating system

Take the original "System Restore" set of CDs that were shipped with your computer, and use them.

If you cannot find them, telephone ACER, and order a replacement set of those "System Restore" CDs. Probably $20 plus $20 for overnight-courier delivery.

Operating system not found on Acer laptop

First, make sure that there aren't any discs in any of the drives. (I don't suppose it comes with a floppy, but if it does, make sure that there is no disc in it.) Acer's usually don't come with restore cds, instead they use a recovery partition, which you can access by holding alt and F-10 immediately after powering on. This process will restore the drive to the factory condition, which will destroy whatever newer data is on it. (Good thing you've been backing up on a regular basis, eh?
