If you have a headset with a mic on it, the the Green goes to Green and the Black should go to the Pink jack.

Why does my dimension 8200 dell desktop say "strike f1 to retry boot, f2 for setup utility"

Rduy Cruz,
This error message references that your system Primary hard drive is not being Detected in the system. You can press F2 to enter the setup to see if the hard drive is even being seen. If not, exit out and shutdown the system. Unplug the power cable and open the computer to reseat the hard drive cables at the hard drive and at the motherboard connection. If that does not resolve the issue you may need to replace the hard drive IDE cable. If all this does not work you may need to replace the hard drive. Please post back if this does not resolve the issue.Below is a link to your online manual for your computer.

No speaker sound

There sometimes are three connectors on a sound card that are similar. A speaker output, microphone input, and stereo headphone output.

Try all three, if you accidentally put it on the microphone input you won't get sound output of that one, so try another.

Also, check in the speaker control panel for the sound to be checked to mute or volume turned all the way down.

Dell 8200 Dimension shuts down on bootup. Making

The clinking sound could well be your drive heads snapping back into parking location if your power supply is going out. Since the 8200 comes with a pretty weak power supply those tend to go out shortly after you've upgraded to a better graphics card or added another drive to the system. I've replaced mine a few times and now have a 450 watt supply in it which seems to be able to handle a powered video card and the 2nd HD, 2nd dvd without running out of juice.
Another good thing for these old dimensions is the addition of a case /slot fan to help with cooling a bit more. (see included picture)
I've had dealings with a number of dimensions from this era not cooling enough and the slot fans really helped stability.5a04930.gif
Let me know if any of this helps your situation.

I want to replace CD drive on Dell Dimension 8200. My options are serial ATA, parallel ATA & ATAPI. Which one do I need?

Hello,

This computer has 2 IDE connectors. These are parallel ATA connectors.

See: Dell Dimension 8200 Specs

If you get a drive, look for IDE on the package. IDE, PATA and ATAPI are near synonomous. They use a 40 pin flat ribbon cable to connect.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Trying to install hard drive on Dell Dimension 8200.

Sounds like the drive from the 4700 is a SATA drive which uses a different connector than the 40-pin IDE. I couldn't confirm it, but the 8200 may not have SATA connectors for this type of drive. Although the 4700 appears to have both SATA and IDE.
