You should feed them as much as they can eat in a few minutes. The amount varies on the number of fish you have in your tank; however if you are using flake food, the goal is to have your fish eat everything before it falls to the floor of your tank. Generally speaking, this should only amount to a pinch or two of flake food.

Don't feed too much. Because the fish don't know to stop eat.

SOURCE: Can I feed my fish cat food?

I do not recommend feeding your fish anything other thanfish food. Fish food is specificallydesigned to be nutritious and digestible to fish. You cannot say the same about any otheranimals' food. If you are out of fishfood, you can feed fish soggy bread crumbs for up to 24 hours before theyrequire something more substantial.b>

SOURCE: Are there times I should feed my fish more food than usual?

Absolutely, in the spring time when temperatures vary from 5 to 12 degrees Celsius be sure to feed sparingly, not more than once a day. During the summer months, feeding frequency, especially for koi, can increase to two to four times daily.

Is it ok to feed all of my fish the same foods?

It depends on what types of fish you have. If you have a community tank of carnivores, omnivores and herbivores, you cannot feed them the same diet. Do some research and learn about your fish types and what they need to eat in order to receive the right amounts of nutrition in their diets.

Aside from the 'normal' variations of fish food, is there anything else I can feed them; perhaps some human foods?

This really depends on the types of fish you have. There are some items you can buy at your grocery store such as lettuce, peas and brussel sprouts that your herbivore fish can eat.

Is it dangerous to feed my fish a lot?

Yes it is, if you overfeed your fish the uneaten food will produce by-products which can be harmful to the fish because fish often eat everything around them. In the event you do overfeed, promptly remove the uneaten food using a siphon or a net in order to prevent your fish from eating it.

How to kil hydra

Things You'll Need:
  • Aquarium vacuum
  • Additional freshwater
  • Fish food
  • Commercial medication (optional)
  • Step 1:Vacuum the aquarium. Sweep the bottom of the tank with the vacuum to remove the hydra and a majority of their food sources. Use the aquarium vacuum as needed to keep the freshwater aquarium clean. This will prevent more hydra from appearing in your aquarium.
  • Step 2:Replace any lost water. Vacuuming the aquarium will pull out a fair amount of water. Replenish the aquarium with additional freshwater. Northern State University suggests using freshly collected pond water or rain water.
  • Step 3:Reduce the amount of food you feed the fish in the tank. Temporarily decreasing the amount of food will result in larger fish feeding on the hydra and eliminating a source of food for the hydra. If food is unavailable, hydra reproduction will cease and they will eventually shrink then die.
  • Step 4:Repeat these steps as necessary. Continue the three-step process until all signs of hydra are gone. Negligence in cleaning the tank or feeding the fish ample amounts will allow the hydra to feed as well, and thus rapidly reproduce. Continuing the steps is also a maintenance measure that will prevent additional hydra from developing in your freshwater aquarium.
Tips & Warnings
  • Aquarium-supply stores sell various medications that reportedly kill hydra.
  • The steps you take to kill freshwater hydra could also kill small fish in your tank. Prepare to lose some small freshwater fish fry in the process.
