Howdey howdey...
Sounds like a long and interesting conversation... on a job you have yet to begin... looks to be 10 "plugs" in all... 6 block & 4 head sized for your engine: Yes accessable... but pretty difficult
KIA 1996 SPORTAGE 2.0L L4 DOHC Expansion Plug / Set.
(rockauto and autozone links will be added below
)
Informational purposes:
Freeze, Fost and Expansion plugs although popularly know by such names are merely SOFT or CASTING plugs...(holes that are used to clean out the "
CASTING MATERIAL" from the manufacturing process.
They were never intended to be any kind of CLEVER pressure release for DARING & COURAGEOUS in our midst... who REFUSE to use anti-freeze. There is absolutely no GUARANTEE
the block HAS NOT BEEN CRACKED or RUINED by freezing.
If
ice forced out the plug(s)... you
MIGHT get by... replacing one but if they are
corroded... they tend to all corrode... Corrosion and electrolysis are not indiscriminate... They will destroy everything. Yet another TRAVESTY that could have been prevented with
fresh, clean anti-freeze.
Pulling the engine is the most efficient way to do
that job
.
For the world of folks that
WANT to try to get by... there are rubber
plugs that can be used in lieu of the proper CASTING PLUGS.
Check out the plug removal tool... and the BOLT TIGHTENING RUBBER PLUGS shown on the URL (immediately below).
Hope this helps!
