I have an Amana 20 Energy Saver bottom Freezer refrigerator (21 years old). Layer of ice in bottom of freezer. Don't know where cover is located to access plastic defrost drain tube. Is it in freezer compartment or do I access it from back of fridge? Fridge is running fine. Ice seems to melt a bit in the frteezer and somehow drain onto the floor.
It is in the freezer compartment but you can try accessing it from the bottom where it goes into the drip pan. Try using a can of compressed air with a straw held tightly with your fingers and blow out the line backwards.
Not a lot of infor ar pictures in you manual . It does say to make sure it is level and shows hot to do so. See below:

I have a Maytag Refrigerator MDL No. PTB1950DE.
I am very familiar with the inner workings of this refrigerator and mine too, makes that very, very loud popping sound and it does it after the defrost rod is finished melting the accumulated ice in the freezer. The ice melts then it falls, in big chunks and then it goes down a center drain opening that takes the ice all the way down to the bottom of the refrigerator to the plastic drain pan underneath. That loud "popping" sound is the sound of the ice falling onto the plastic drain pan. Don't let these technicians try to fool you into believing it is a motor or wiring problem because that is simply NOT the case.
