Need belt routing sequence or what im not sure how to help , if you have the belt on the right way there should be a diag on the waterpump shroud , other than that if that is gone ck local auto parts store you have to take a 3/8s drive ratchet to pull back the tensioner to load the belt i usually load the belt on all pulleys except the idler pully then i preload the tensioner and slide the belt under that pulley last , im thnking you have a 3.1 or 3.4 litre engine

Belt broke stering has gone tight-which belt do i need audi a4 1996

Give the model and year at an autoparts store and ask for a power steering belt. Will likely be running the waterpump and alternator too so you cant drive far because you will overheat the engine and or flatten your battery.
Loosen alternator bracket all bolts and move it to the shortest distance to the nearest pulley wheel. Slide belt around all free wheels and idlers (tensioning wheels) and move alternator bracket back to original position so belt is tight.
If you cant get the belt on belt is too short, if it is not tight with alternator about half way along the adjustment bracket belt is too long. Take it back to store, act real grumpy, try to leave with right size belt and a free gift.

Removing a serpentine belt to change an alternator

Easiest way is to release the tension and remove the belt from the alternator and secure it with a bungee cord to someplace that will hold it around the other pulleys. The decal showing the routing should be on the underside of the hood in case it comes off.

I want to change my thermostat in my audi

the thermostat is located behind the timing belt so you should think about changing the timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. ---- Thermostat is on the back of the cyl head up at the bulkhead, follow top rad hose back and you will find thermostat housing. If you have to ask, you probably shouldn't be attempting it. It involves a lift, draining the coolant, removing the front bumper, putting the core support into the service position, removing the belts, moving the alternator, loosening the mounting plate that supports the fan clutch, power steering pump etc. - all so you can get to the thermostat housing! If you had a Jaguar, changing a thermostat would take less than fifteen minutes. Instead, the Germans audi car made it a four hour job for a professional too.
