Kodak 5300 bi-directional support not enabled error

I'm getting a bi-directional error on my PC laptop, sharing the Kodak 5300 with a Dell Desktop PC. I didn't get these errors until I updated the Kodak software. I think it is 7.x.x. I've checked the hardware/system setting for the printer, and the "Enable Bi-directional Support" buttons on my laptop are grayed out, while on the desktop (host PC) "Enable Bi-directional Support" is already checked. The printer is working fine, from both the Desktop and the laptop, but I do find the error message very annoying.

SOURCE: Kodak EasyShare 5300 Printer error message

Ten Step Process to Fix the "Print Head" Error Message on the Kodak 5300 Printer.

1. Clear a good spot it your back yard that is free of shrups and flowers.

2. Get the following tools: Flat head screwdriver, shovel, sledgehammer.

3. Dig 24" x 24" hole in your back yard and rope off the excavation area for safety.

4. Whaaaaack the heck out of the Kodak 5300 with the sledgehammmer until such time that it is not a recognizeable piece of electronic equipment.

5. Stab it with the flat head screwdriver, just in case it has the Terminator syndrome (comes back to life).

6. Throw the piece of garbage in the recently excavated hole in your back yard.

7. Cover up that useless piece of garbage and forget you ever owned it.

8. Get in your car and go to the nearest electronic store and ask to speak to the manager.

9. Ask if they sell the Kodak 5300 printer. If so, whack him with the shovel. You don't want to seriously injure him so don't even consider the sledgehammer of the screwdriver. After all, its not his fault that his company carries such garbarge. But the whack is just to burn off some steam from your frustrations.

10. Purchase any other printer but a Kodak and live happily ever after.

SOURCE: 2 Problems: 1) Unable to get printer to print from desktop; 2) Kodak SW won't install on laptop

Download and install the new software and printer firmware from kodak.com (link below - firmware and software is the same for all the 5000 units). Do not use the CD, and Uninstall all previous versions before installing the new software you download from the site.

Greetings Jackie,

Sounds like you have a failed .netframework installation. This is a Microsoft feature, but is delivered during installation of Kodak software as well. To fix this, do the following.

1. Open the Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add / Remove Programs (Windows XP only).
3. Select Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.

IMPORTANT: If other versions of Microsoft .NET Framework are listed, do not perform this operation on those other versions. Follow this procedure ONLY for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
4. Click Change / Remove.
5. Select Repair, and click Next.
NOTE: A progress bar shows the repair progress.
6. After the repair is complete, make sure the Restart the computer check box is selected, and click Finish.
7. After the computer restarts, start the KODAK AiO Home Center software.
IMPORTANT: If the KODAK AiO Home Center software fails to start or continues to display an error message, completely uninstall Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and do a clean reinstall KODAK AiO Home Center software. The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 will also be reinstalled with the KODAK AiO Home Center software.
    1. Follow steps 1 - 4 above.

    2. Select Uninstall, and click Next.
IMPORTANT: Uninstall ONLY Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. If other versions of Microsoft .NET Framework are listed, do not uninstall them.

        i. In the Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs (Windows XP).
ii. Select one of the following software programs from the list of currently installed programs, depending on which one appears in your list:

iii. Click Change or Remove (Windows XP).

SOURCE: Kodak 5100 won't print with Windows 7.

I've had the same problem for some time, but recently found a fix. Those sneaky folks at Kodak updated their Vista driver for the ESP series, and it works with Windows 7 now. Oddly enough they haven't advertised this fact, but it works none-the-less. Now, you're going to have to uninstall the Kodak Home Center, the driver and anything else associated with Kodak. You need to manually go through the Program Folder and delete anything Kodak. Make sure you set explorer to show hidden files/directories, and go to Program Data and delete any thing Kodak. Finally go to users appdata and delete anything Kodak in all the sub folders there. Then download and install the new May 1 drivers from the Kodak site:

http://www.kodak.com/global/mul/service/downloads/DownloadLookup.jhtml?pq-path=9103/13657/13660&product=EKN035329

Note: They are the Windows Vista drivers, but they do work on my Windows 7 machine.

You'll also notice that they've updated their installer program.

Hope this works for you, and if it does spread the word!

I gota dell windows 7 computer when i try to scan with my aio 5300 easy share a window pups up that reads .. YOU NEED A WIA DRIVER TO RUN THIS DIVICE

Did you install the Kodak software before connecting the printer to the computer? http://support.en.kodak.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/36460/selected/true has the software for Windows.

This error usually means that you installed the generic driver from the OS which only runs printer. Uninstall the current driver, disconnect the data cable (USB) and then restart your computer. Install the software from the Kodak site above. Then connect the data cable when prompted to do so. Try scanning after completing the installation procedure.

If you did install the Kodak software, it may have gotten corrupted. Please follow the above directions and let me know if you have any problems.

I hope this helps.

Looking for the driver software for the Kodak EASYSHARE 5300 all-in one printer

The Kodak 5300 aio is as unique as a '83 Buick Diesel I once owned. Only difference is it can't jump on a tow truck each time one passes by. Unleashing this abortion on the consumer is as sinful as was G.M. After two new print heads, hours of
frustration, and utilizing all known cuss works, I am finally carrying it out to the trash. Fingers are now crossed hoping the trash collector will accept it. &*^%&*. Shame on you Kodak.
Solution is.....buy any other brand of printer if you want peace of mind. [email protected]
