Keyboard characters not registering

Hi guys, my desknote is an asus degatto. i just observed that some of the letters in my keyboard are not registering. i initially suspected that it might have been caused by accumulated dust under the board. i tried to clean the boards underneath and it didn't fixed the problem. i do not know wherelse to locate the problem. i am losing time and temper on this so i might also seek your help where i can buy a keyboard for this type of unit. your response will certainly be treated as heaven sent. thanks in advance. rollie

Try to take the keyboard out and check for the connection and reconnect very firmly and hook it back again. If it si still show same issue, take off gently the non working key off the board and view the plastic pad under it for any damage or misalign and push the key back gently to be sue it is snap firmly into the base ann use your finger to test that key again for functionning. If th eissue came from the key only, you need to replace the key only. You don't have to get a whole keyboard. If all suggestion above failed, You defintely need a new keyboard.

Your numlock is turned on. There is more than one way to turn it off.Find a USB keyboard, and plug it in. Then push the numlock key on the USB keyboard to turn it off.OR, if you don't have access to one of those, hold down the fn key (lower left hand corner of the keyboard) and press the key with numlock or number lock written on or near it.

Hi, my acer aspire 4930's keyboard not functioning correctly.. when i press letter "a" it appear as "A1" same as "Q" appears "Q1".. pls help me

Hi.

Try cleaning the keyboard with a clean, dry paintbrush just in case there is anything stuck under the keys. Once you have cleaned the keyboard try typing keys to see if it does the same thing. If the keys type as normal then you have resolved the problem.
If the keys still type other characters along with the letter then there is a strong possibility that the keyboard needs to be replaced.
This usually happens when something has been spilt on the keyboard causing it to type random characters or the characters directly above or below them.

Seeing as the keyboard is a laptop keyboard you can use a wireles/wired keyboard or you can use the on-screen keyboard if you can't get the keyboard to work.

If there is anything else please post back.

Good luck.

How do I get swedish letters on an asus keyboard?

You get special characters by using alt codes. That is, you press and hold the "alt" key while entering a 4-digit code using the numeric keypad (or, on a laptop, the keys that serve as a numeric keypad). When you release the alt key the special character appears at the cursor location. This page lists the characters and corresponding code.

If you are using an application like Microsoft Word, there may be an "insert special character" command available. Then you can pick the character from a table instead.

CMOS replacement for ASUS d1

It's difficult to say but you will need to remove the underside screws and also maybe even the keyboard as it's often attached to the base. The cmos battery could also be behind the screen. Comment by sandrew, posted on Nov 12, 2006 I'm sorry but I dont have any personal experiences with your particular laptop, but the lcd's are generally held in with 1 screw in each corner normally covered by a rubber bung hiding the screws, I would be very carefull not to disconnect any wires behind the screen, if yor not sure take it to a qualified repairer. You will probably have to remove the top panel just below the hinges as they may be held in underneath
