Question about Craftsman Garden

1 Answer

18.5 hp 42 inch cut, craftsman riding mower loses power after 10 min.

I have been working on this mower for about a month, have had many helpful replys, but; problem still there. It runs great for 10 min then starts losing power, almost quits, then comes back up again in power, after a few minutes the same thing happens again, over and over again. Finally will quit. I have cleaned the air filter, put in a new plug set at .30, removed the coil (armature-magneto) cleaned it, and reset at 13 thousands- a business card length away from the fly wheel, changed oil and filter, removed carb and flushed with carb cleaner, renewed gas lines and filter, removed gas tank- flushed and cleaned, cleaned gas cap and checked the gap in the top it is open and clean. when it quit I checked the plug to see if I was still getting sparks I was and plenty. I know the problem is either in the firing or the fuel, but; I am running out of ideas... need more help folks. Don. crimson9

I meant the thickness of a business card tight against the fly wheel and coil. Not length.

I too am having the same problem. My B/S will run for about 5 minutes then cut out. I have tried to clean the carburator, I checked the fuel pump, which is pumping fine, and also checked the anti backfire silanoid which seems to be functioning. Im not sure what step to take next?

Us start here, remove fuel line from carb. Hope fuel runs out.
Check the direction of fuel filter. There arrows on it. Arrow toward
carb.

fuel filter was o.k. , but thanks for the input anyway, I found problem and repaired it, the problem was a broke sprink in the choke.

SOURCE: Motor runs for 5-10 min. then starts missing and quits.

Check your spark first,if you do not have spark your problem is the coils-if you do have spark the problem probaly lies withone of your valves getting stuck after getting hot and soonas it cools down a little it closes and then you can restart it till it gets hot again.Hope this helps

I have A craftsman riding mower 18 1/2 hp 42 inch deck have changed spark plugfuel filter took off tank and blowed it out but the mower still cute off after about 10 minutes like it has no gas what else...

Do you have a Briggs or kohler engine.I am having the same problem.I have changed the fuel filte, fuel pump, and cleaned the carb.Sears has been no help at all.The reason I ask about the engine you have is that people are having the same problem no matter what engine they have.So therefore it probably is not the engine so it is something else on the mower. My mower runs fine for about 10-15 then starts to stutter and backfire.I am continuing to pursue this problem and I will post back here if I come up with anything.

Sears Craftsman riding mower V belt getting chewed

I believe you may have the belt over one or more of the belt retainers next to the pulleys. They are 5 or 6 inches long and about a 1/4 inch in diameter. You have to loosen them when you put the belt on then adjust them to where they are just barely touching the back of the belt. They keep the belt from jumping off.

Craftsman 19.5 riding mower starts runs quits no power

When you let it sit did you remove all the fuel or add a additive? If you did not then I would recommend that you remove all the fuel and add brand new fuel to your system. Gasoline only last for about 3 to 4 months before it will start to go bad and this sounds like your problem

Cuts out and stops sometimes after 30 min. or so

check your fuel delivery system. It sounds like a blocked filter, failing pump or a restriction in the fuel line.
