The simple solution would be to fill it like you would to do laundry. Then add a few cups of bleach and run it through it's cycle.

SOURCE: The water smells bad as if it is not draining

Hi

Try using bleach with hot water, run a cycle with hot water and bleach. Or spray bleach +water mixture on the seal. Run a cleaning cycle with hot water and bleach or vinegar at least once a month to reduce the growth of mold in other parts of the washer. You can also try using 1/2 a cup of Washing Soda or 4 cups of baking soda Crystals and run the machine with no clothes in it. This would remove all the debris, lint & mold growth from the drain pump and drain filter. This would clean the mold from the door seal as well. Hope this helps.. Please post back if you need mor information.

SOURCE: strong musty damp smell - tried soda crystals,

Try a full bag of soda crystals on a hot wash...and then add them regulalrly. They are not a deodoriser but will help clear the gunk that is causing the smell. Bicarbonate of soda is a better deodoriser though.

If you have not already done so, then check and clean the filter.
This is usually located at the bottom front right of washer behind a drop down flap or cover.
Unscrew anti-clockwise to remove and clean.
Please rate my solution.
Thankyou.

SOURCE: Bosch Axxis Front load washer

a little bit of vanilla extract will take care of the smell. as far as getting the smell in the first place there is a problem with the drain system either the pump is not quite up to spec and leaving too much water in it or there is a problem with the line coming from it or the drains in your home. my advice would be to call bosch your washer is still under warranty and they will send someone out to look for it at no charge. this is not something i would be taking apart when the company will do it for you.

Smell after drying

Try drying your clothes without the dryer sheet and see if the smell is still there. If it is not, then the problem is the dryer sheet.
If it is, then you need to describe the smell better. Different people handle smells differently. What smells musty to you may smell fragrant to others.
You need to determine if the smell you don't like is really a musty smell, or is it a fragrance you don't like. Have some friends (not family members) smell the clothes and verify if what you are smelling is musty or fragrant.

It could also be that even though the clothes smell OK out of the washer, that the detergent you are using is the cause.

My maytag neptune washer smells musty. what is

I owned a maytag neptune washer and had to run dishwashing liquid thru it occasionally to get the smell to go away. Finally we learned about a new gasket retrofit that they were doing which was covered by the maytag company we called and they installed it for free and the smell stopped. I had that washer for about 10 years and probably spent as much fixing it over the years as it cost. I now have a whirlpool duet front loader and love it. no smell and not problems. Try the electric dish washer soap.

Washing Machine smells after washing completed why is this

problem occurs due to cool washes(i.e. 40c and under) not destroying bacteria from clothing/detergent which then breeds inside your machine, therefore creating a sometimes sulpherous or musty smell.
i would advise you to regularly do a hot wash(minimun 60c) with an old towel, soda crystals and washing machine bleach i.e. vanish, ace etc with an old towel in the drum to move the mixture around. if you keep up with this the smell will eventually go away.
you can buy limescale/detergent removal powders which will do the same job.
hope you find this useful.

Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!

Musty smell in washer

From another consumer with the same problem:

The mildew smell started about a month after we got it and got increasingly worse! Had a service tech out who replaced the gasket, but he left me a product called WHIRLOUT. It is made for hot tubs and spas and whirlpool tubs. You can get it at a pool supply or Home Depot or Lowe's. It is made to remove the soap scum buildup that provides a growing environment for the bacteria, which produces the smell. You add about a cup to the normal wash cycle. Do not put in the dispenser, add when the water is in the tub. I ran it through twice the first time. Then about once a month to keep it clean. Another thing he told me, don't use dryer sheets in the dryer because they will eventually cause a film to build up on the sensors that tell you when the clothes are dry. I've switched to Downey fabric softener in the washer. He also told me NOT to use a really thick fabric softener because it will not go easily through the dispenser. There is a drain hose by the filter on the washer - pull it out first and drain the left over water into a bowl or pitcher before you clean the filter. This will prevent the mess when cleaning the filter!!! LG never told me this, the same technician showed me this, too!
