I recently started using the Kitchenaid meat grinder. After about a hal a pound goes through, black residue is all over the meat. When I take it apart, there is tons of oil-like back gunk in the meat chamber. I was hoping it may just be a one time thing, but this is the 4th batch of meat I have made and it has just gotten worse. I see others are complaining about it (eg. on Amazon.com reviews). It is coming from inside the machine where the grinder attachment fits into the machine. Second question: Does this happen with regular meat grinders also?
The guy that said that the meat produces this is full of it since the black reside is the blade friction against the round metal piece with the holes, i had black fine powder all over my mixer without any meat
This is a common issue with the Kitchenaid food grinder. The black residue is a product of the meat itself.

In most instances, it has a lot to do in the way you clean it. Don't lace it in the diswasher because it with become somewhat 'tarnished' where black-like suit can rub off, and coat the meat.
I discovered Palmolive oxy dish soap (blue bottle) just by trial
and error. Put some on a sponge/ (non-metal) scouring pad, and scrub
the attachment, it will take off the majority of the gunk that's
rubbing off and after a few times of cleaning it, it'll get back to its
aluminum luster. Easy remedy to clean any aluminum item.
I am having the same problem when trying to make pimento cheese. The grinder is clean and as I continue to put the cheese in, black sludge starts coming out of the holes along with the cheese. What does kitchenAid recommend?
