Kenmore Elite HE4t Washer won't start

When we select a cycle and press the start button to start a load the washer makes a clicking sound that is basically failing to lock the door. It will make this clicking sound about 5 to 6 times and then give a display of "DL" and "F" and beep about six times. Every few hours it will work like normal, however, appears to be getting worse. Have tried unplugging the machine and plugging back in, which did work a few times, but now that does not seem to correct the issue.

Hello Ameliafaith,

E-Z job...

If you take your model on line... to SEARS
(I don't ordinarily recommend)... BECAUSE THEY COULD ACTUALLY ... decode your ABREVIATED part number...

110. blah blah blah... (45986??)

The other sites actually have helpful VIDEOS...
But I already wasted enough time on this floundering with your
erroneous number (wrong no.)...

You will see these parts are reasonably priced and
very popular.. meaning they INDEED FAIL ... alot.

SOURCE: Kenmore Elite HE4t Washer door won't lock

If your washing machine is still under the manufacturers warranty I don't believe Sears should be charging you anything for the call. But, if you wish to steer clear of that mess and repair the washer yourself, I can give you some advice. The problem is your door latch assembly. The "Fdl" displayed is a failed door latch error code. If it is occurring intermittently right now, you are simply going to buy some time before it eventually goes bad. When it does, the washer will not run. The part number is 1094190 and costs about $50. Just to be sure, post back with comments as to your model number (located along the door frame opening) and I will research to ensure the part number is correct. The latch assemblies have not changed over recent years and are interchangeable between model numbers. If you still wish to repair yourself, I can also give you step-by-step instructions. It is not a difficult repair, but it is a little tedious. Let me know. I hope this helps you.

"Fdl" is a door latch error code. This can be an indication of a broken door latch, or a bad central control unit (CCU). It can also mean loose interconnecting wires. Since you indicated that the latch doesn't make any noises such as attempting to lock at the beginning of the wash cycle, I would suspect the door latch as the problem, before I would suspect the control unit. The door latch doesn't cost much (usually around $35) and is a fairly simple repair to make on your own. If you wish to attempt a repair here's the steps required to replace the switch and how to perform diagnostics:

1. Unplug washer.
2. Remove the outer portion of the door bellow. This is the gray rubber boot around the door. Feel around the edge of the door bellow where it attaches to the front of the washer. You will find a wire retaining hoop in the seam between the rubber and the front case. Follow this wire hoop to the bottom of the door bellow and you will find a tension spring. Carefully, stretch this spring apart and remove the wire hoop.
3. Pull the rubber bellow from the door facing on the front of the washer being careful not to rip or tear it. Once removed, fold the rubber backwards inside the drum so you can access behind the front panel. DO NOT remove the rubber bellow from the wash tub. This requires more steps, which means removing more parts, which means more time (plus patience).
4. The door latch assembly is located behind the front panel of the washer on the right hand side. Locate and remove the three screws on the washer front that hold the door latch assembly in place. The whole assembly should come free from the washer front and be held by a plastic mounting bracket and several wire connectors.
5. Carefully remove the latch assembly from the plastic mounting bracket BEFORE attempting to unplug any wires. It makes it much easier to access if you do.
6. Unplug the wire connectors using care not to break any of the wires. You may want to write them down, but I believe they will only plug into their respective slots.
7. Remove the old door latch and install the new one in the reverse order of the steps I just presented to you. Plug the wires back in first, then place the whole assembly back into the plastic mounting bracket, and then reattach to the front of the washer.
8. Now, when you get the reinstalling the rubber door boot, you may want to get the assistance of a second pair of hands as it can be difficult sometimes to manipulate the wire retainer back into place. Carefully reattach the rubber bellow to the door facing on the front of the washer first.
9. Starting at the top of the door bellow at the 12 o'clock position begin inserting the wire hoop back into the groove. Work your way around with both hands to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. (This is where you could use those second pair of hands). While holding a slight downward tension on the wire hoop to keep it in place, pull the tension spring apart enough to snap the remaining part of the hoop into place at the bottom.

Once you've completed these steps make sure the door closes and latches properly. NEVER slam a door with an electronic latch. They can break easily.

Now plug the washer back in. At the control panel select:

DRAIN SPIN
NO SPIN
and under OPTIONS press any key (has the be the same key) 4 times.

This places the washer into diagnostics mode. "C00" will be displayed on the screen and you should hear a distinctive "click" of the door latch. If diagnostics passes, the washer will run through a series of tests, tumble, drain and then spin. When completed, the unit will make an audible "beep" and the CLEAN light will be lit.

You can stop this process at any time by press the PAUSE/CANCEL button. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any further questions.

SOURCE: KENMORE ELITE WASHER error (DL) then (F)

The "Fdl" error code indicates a problem with the door latch assembly. The clicking sound you hear is the door latch attempting to latch. If it fails to latch, the wash cycle will not start and the error code and audible beep will occur. There should be a tech sheet inside the washer. It's usually located behind the bottom panel under the door, or along the inside of the casing on either the left or right hand side. The tech sheet will have a list of error codes, procedures on how to perform diagnostics, and troubleshooting hints. It's strongly recommended that you leave the tech sheet inside the washer, so you don't lose it.

Repairclinic.com carries the door latch for about $50 and is listed as item number 1094190.

Searspartsdirect carries it for slightly less for about $43 and lists it under the "Door and Latch Parts" as item number 7 (part #8181700).

If you go to my profile and click on "Tips and Tricks" I have a posting there on how to change the door latch on a front loader. It's a very simple repair that any Do-It-Yourselfer can accomplish.

If you can't find the instructions you need, or need further assistance, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Kenmore elite washer will not start

The problem might be that the black pin (about 3/8" long and 1/8" in diameter), that normally sticks out of the frame of the washer at about the 2 o'clock position, and which is pushed in when the door closes, has broken off. If this pin breaks off, the washer will not recognize that the door has been closed. In my opinion, the pin is most likely to break when you close the door and the door was not properly aligned with the door frame -- in which case the pin will be sheared off. Let me know what you find.

He4t - monthly bleach cleaning cycle

Washer Monthly Maintenance Procedure:
This cycle uses higher water volumes in combination with liquid chlorine bleach to thoroughly clean the inside of your washing machine.
  1. remove any clothing or items from washer
  2. CLOSE door (duh)
  3. open dispenser drawer and remove the detergent compartment and set aside. No laundry products will be added at this time. You will be required to add only liquid chlorine bleach at a later step.
  4. For Kenmore Elite HE products press a specific combo of buttons.
  • Select Rinse/Spin program
  • select low spin speed
  • select warm/cold water temp.
  • select 2nd rinse option
  • push the "end of cycle" signal button 4 times within 5 seconds to start the cycle
The machine will fill and run a short sensing cycle. This will take about 3 minutes.

Step 5
  1. The washer will provide 4 short tones. Check the: ESTIMATED TIME REMAINING display for the codes indicated below:
  • if "Ab" (add bleach) displayed in the estimated time remaining window (you'll hear 4 short tones) proceed to Step 6.
  • if "rL" (remove load) displayed in the Estimated Time Remaining window an error tone will sound. The door will unlock.
-open the door and remove the items from the washer.
-continue the cycle by pressing the START button.

NOTE: The water in the unit will dispense for a moment, then the door will unlock, lock again, and then the cycle will continue with another check for items in the washer.

The machine will fill and run a short cycle to determine whether any items have been left in the washer. This will take approx 3 minutes.

the washer will repeat Step 5 until it can determine that there are NO items n the washer and will display "Ab" (add bleach).
6. Add liquid chlorine bleach.
  • If using the maintenance procedure for the first time, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1 cup liquid chlorine bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.
  • If doing a monthly maintenance procedure, open the dispenser drawer and immediately add 1/3 cup bleach to the Main Wash detergent compartment. The liquid chlorine bleach should immediately flow out of the dispenser.

    NOTES:
  • Water will be flowing into the dispenser drawer when the bleach is added ... this is normal.
  • Do not add any detergent to this cleaning cycle. Use of more than 1 cup of bleachw ill cause product damage over time.
7. Once the cleaning cycle has begun, allow the cycle to complete. An est cycle time will appear on the display.

8. After the cleaning cycle is complete, leave the door open, clightly to allow for better ventilation and drying of washer interior.

9. Replace the detergent compartment divider.
