If you're looking at the planer from the infeed side, there's a belt guard on the right side of the head. Remove it and check the condition of the drive belt. If it's broke the motor will spin without powering the cutterhead and feed rollers. The drive belt is still available as part number 22-563 on sites like http://servicenet.dewalt.com/ and www.ereplacementparts.com. Just put your model number in their search box and find the drive belt in the breakdown.

How do you change the cutter bar bearings on a delta 12 inch planer

You are looking at a major disassembly to get at the cutter head bearings, everything is built around the cutter head. The motor drives the cutter head on one end of it and the cutter head drives the rollers at the other end. Most of the components have to be removed to get the cutter head and it's bearings out. You can go to www.ereplacementparts.com and do a search on your model number for a good breakdown of your planner and see what you need to remove to get at the cutter head and it's bearings.

I have a delta portable planer, model#22-540 type 2. I need to know how to change the blades.

It is involved so I recommend going to "dewaltservicenet.com" and under manuals on the left hand side type in your model number and it will redirect you to a page so that you can download the owners manual, it is 17 pages long and the area you need is around pages 10-11 which deals with blade changing. REMEMBER to unplug the tool before starting this. Let me know if you need more assistance

The planner nips the end of the board

My planer does the same thing.

1) I don't make the final cuts on my boards until after planing.

2) I discovered why the planer does this. I don't have a planer table. I use the two metal stands that came with the planer, and they don't really hold the board flat & steady like a planer table would. The planer has 2 rollers >>> one roller is on the feed-end and one roller is on the finished-end. When the end of the board goes past the feed-end roller, it is no longer held flat by two rollers. The weight of the board causes the board to tip up into the planer blade on the last 3 inches. So sometimes I just hold up the end of the board as it finishes ... but it still takes a nip out of the board now and then.

Up-vote if the information helped you. Thanks for the feedback.

Which way does the beveled edge of the planer blade face when they are being installed.

when standing at the back of the planer you should be able to see the beveled edge, the flat side of the blade should be facing the front of the planer.
