P1353ME is versatile timer, and can be wired many different ways, and wiring can vary depending on which mode is selected, and which loads are being controlled.

The key to understanding P1353ME wiring is that incoming voltage connects to terminals 1 and 2. This will power the timer mechanism and power the switches, but does not put any power to terminals 3 thru 8.
Terminals 3 thru 8 are 'dry' switches. There are three switches, and you have to connect power to each switch.

Terminals 3-4 are one switch, just like a light switch that turns on-off with timer programming. Terminals 5-6 are separate switch. Terminals 7-8 are separate switch. So there are three switches.

Also in different modes the switches can operated at the same time, or operate separately with different programming for each switch.

I am replacing a intermatic t101r with a tightwatt timer. the t101r has 5 terminals wired, the tightwatt only has 4

Hello Barbara.
You dont have T101R timer. Because T101 has 3 terminals.
Remember any Intermatic timer can be replaced into the T101 enclosure.
First step, Identify your voltage.
Second step, identify if you are controlling a 2-speed pump.
Third step, identify the Intermatic timer by looking at clock motor and wiring.

T101R timer has 3 terminals, and has WG1570 120Volt clock motor.
T103R timer has 5 terminals and WH1570 120Volt clock motor
T104 timer and T106R timer have 5 terminals and WG1573 240Volt clock motor

Terminal A on Intermatic could be Neutral or Hot depending on what has been done to alter the timer.

How to program intermatic pe 153p

PE153 comes with P1353 timer.
The timer instruction manual is too long to copy.
Read manual, and add a comment with specific question about any part of manual.

P1353 is 3-channel timer.
3-channels means that timer can control 3 separate circuits, each with different timing schedule.

Timer has 5 different modes.
Page 13 of manual shows modes.
Select different modes depending on what type of device(s) you are controlling with timer.
For example, 2-speed pool pump, you select MODE 2 or MODE 4

By selecting Mode 2 or 4, the timer protects against programming conflicts that would turn on both speeds at same time, and cause electrical problem.

How do I connect my 2 speed pool motor?

1) You might need a different timer.
240Volt T106 has one NO terminal and one NC terminal.

2) Terminal 1 is NC terminal
NC terminal is 'normally closed' so electricity flows continually through this terminal.
For example you can connect this terminal to speed-1.
So speed-1 is on until timer turns on, and then electricity is turned off to NC terminal and speed-1 stops.

3) Terminal 4 is NO terminal
NO terminal is 'normally open' so electricity flows through this terminal only when timer turns on.
For example you can connect this terminal to speed-2.
So NO terminal only has power when timer turns on.
When timer turns off, NO terminal turns off and NC terminal turns on again.

4) As you can see, the problem with T106 timer is that pool motor is continually running.
Either speed-1 is on, or speed-2 is on.

5) Here's how to wire T106 for 240V two-speed pump:
Two hot wires arrive from breaker box: 1 black wire and 1 white wire.
White connects to terminal A
Black connects to terminal 3.
Three wires go to motor.
Speed-1 connects to terminal 1 probably black wire
Speed-2 connects to terminal 2 probably red wire
Remaining motor wire connects to terminal A probably white wire
Ground wires connect to green ground screw.

6) Usually, 2-speed pool pumps are wired to dual timer like T10404R
So each speed is wired to a separate timer.
With this timer, each speed is connected to separate timer, and then the pump can be turned off when neither speed is needed.

7) However there is a newer electronic timer P1353ME and P1353ME-6 and PE153 that can control 3 different loads. This timer snaps into any T106 box.
For example speed-1 is one load, speed-2 is another load, and a pool light can be third load, or simply do not use third load.

Hi expert: I am installing intermatic P1353me digital pool or spa mechanism and having trouble to figure out how to do this heater Firemen Switch connection. My existing pool timer is T104 and there were...

1) Fireman's switch automatically turns off heater few minutes before turning off pump.
Not all pool timers have fireman's switch.
If old timer did not have it, then don't worry about it.
P1353 has wires marked for fireman's switch, so simply don't use them if you don't want to.

2) T104 and P1353 comparison
Difference 1: T104 turns OFF both hot wires, while P1353 turns Off 1 hot wire.

Difference 2: T104 controls 1 240V load with 1 time schedule, while P1353 controls 3 different 240V loads, each with different time schedule.
Check that wire(s) coming from breaker can handle all 3 loads.

3) 240Volt T104 is wired as follows:

Hot1 from breaker connects to T104 terminal 1
Hot2 from breaker connects to T104 terminal 3
There is constant power on terminals 1 and 3, each terminal has 120V when combined makes the 240V circuit.
Load1 wire connects to T104 terminal 2
Load2 wire connects to T104 terminal 4
Terminals 2 and 4 have power whenever timer turns ON

4) Definition:
In electric wiring, Line means power from breaker, and Load means wire going to light,fan, motor, pump.

Hot1 from breaker connects to P1353 terminal 1
Hot2 from breaker connects to P1353 terminal 2
This will power timer electronics and timer clock and switches.

Jumper wire is placed from Hot1 at terminal 1 to each Line terminals 3 5 and 7.
This will put power at the switch, and when switch turns ON, then power will flow from Line wires to Load wires and then on to the Load.
Load 1 connects to terminal 4, Load 2 connects to terminal 6, Load 3 connects to terminal 8
To complete each 240V circuit, Hot2 is connected directly to each Load.

6) You say 'salt' system connects to terminals 1 and 3 on T104, then those wires are carrying constant 240V to that device. So Salt system connects to terminals 1 and 2 on P1353

7) Get a second opinion:

How do I turn off completely the intermatic 3 circuit timer P1353ME, not only in between cycles?

The on-off button is merely an override of existing program, and then programming resumes at next event setting.
I have read this manual looking for a simple way to turn off timer functions so no pool equipment operates, and it appears that you have to turn off circuit breaker.

This is the same as any mechanical timer such as T104 or T101, and is not brand-specific as all mechanical box timers follow same pattern. Mechanical timers have override button, but the timer reverts to regular schedule at next tripper, just as the P1353 does.

Keep in mind that each load on timer can be wired separate from the timer clock. So you can turn off the load wire going to each load, and still have power to clock.

If you cut power to each load, then it is not necessary to reset current time. Programs remain inside timer even if power is completely cut to timer.
