Kenmore 70 series Washer will not go to spin cycle

The washer will go through the wash and rinse cycles but just stops when it gets to the spin. Does not make any noise its like it just stops and does not drain.

Thank you. I took the lid switch out and pushed it and the washer started to spin. I replaced the lid switch and it is working again. Thank you for the solution.

WOW! Thank you everyone ... it indeed is the Lid Switch! My problem is the switch is entirely broken! I need to REPLACE the switch ... is this a "do it yourself" job, and where can I get the replacement switch! Thanks John

I had the same problem and agree that the lid switch is probably shot. Try putting some type of weight on the lid right over the switch when it gets to a spin cycle. If the machine starts spinning, that's the problem.

Check the lid switch. That is a VERY common problem on these models.

The lid switch is bad . You can either replace it , or bypass it under the control panel . Try putting a pencil down into the hole on the top where the lid actuator goes into to see if it drains and spins .

The drain line is probably clogged. Maybe that a sock or other piece of clothing get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. In this case it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump.Remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out. In case it clean there, check the outer tub port- open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, try to remove the clothing through the port.

SOURCE: kenmore 70 washer drains after wash cycle but not after rinse cyc

It appears your timer/main controller/CCU has failed in this instance.

For replacement parts - head on over to PartSelect.com or RepairClinic.com and enter in your full model number for a full parts listing.
I recommend both sites because ...

FixYa has no affiliation with either site - I have been using and recommending them for years - trouble free.

PartSelect has a great schematic database for locating the part on your unit and great "testimonials" for each part that often times includes HOW-TO information.
RepairClinic has pictures of each part they sell and also a great how-to and troubleshooting for basic repairs.

If your unit has never been serviced - there should still be an original service manual enclosed in plastic taped to the inside of the shell.
In the service manual are Error codes, maintenance procedures, and troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Anything too complicated or beyond your scope should be handled by a professional.

If you think you want to tackle the repair - and have gotten stuck on a step - reply to your question and I will be glad to help you out.

Thanks for using FixYa - a 4 THUMBS rating is appreciated for answering your FREE question!!!!!!

You have a bad lid switch . Try inserting something into the hole on the top and see if that starts the machine in drain/spin . If not , still bad lid switch . If so , tells you still bad lid switch .

Kenmore washer will not go to rinse cycle. 70 series

I had the same problem and it was a broken switch that prevents the washing machine from going into spin with the the top door open. The switch is located in the upper left corner, you can see 2 screws that hold it in. Reach under and check that the middle point when pressed pulls the ends where the actual switch is, you should hear a click.

I was able to temporarly repair by focing the swtich to always be depressed with 2 strips of duct tape. - Warning the washer will go into spin cycle with the top open.

70 series Kenmore washer

POWERUP, YOUR WASHER COULD BE THE LID SWITCH OR THE COLD WATER VALVE. AT THE END OF THE WASH CYCLE, THE MOTOR WILL SPIN OUT THE WATER, BUT ONLY IF THE LID SWITCH IS ACTUATED. IF THE SWITCH IS BAD, IT WILL NOT SPIN OUT THE WATER AND THE TIMER WILL NOT ADVANCE FROM THAT POINT.
IF THE WASHER SPINS, THE NEXT STEP IS TO FILL WITH WATER FOR THE RINSE CYCLE. MOST WASHERS USE COLD WATER FOR RINSES. IF THE COLD WATER VALVE IS RESTRICTED OR FAULTY, THE WASHER WON'T FILL. IF THE WASHER WON'T FILL, THE WATER LEVEL SWITCH WON'T ACTIVATE AND THE TIMER WON'T ADVANCE TO THE NEXT STEP.
