PROTECTIVE FEATURE

In some cases, the STANDBY indicator may blink slowly, twice per second. In this case, turn off the unit, unplug the power cord, and check the following points.

Make sure the speaker cables are not reversed and connected to the wrong sides (+ and -) on the unit.

Make sure the speaker cables connected to the unit are not shorted. (Check both the unit end and the speaker end.)

Make sure the volume does not exceed the level that the unit is capable of producing.

When using the unit in a rack or other enclosed space, heat may build up inside the unit and cause a fire. When installing the unit, be sure to leave suffi cient space between the top, back and both sides of the unit and walls or other AV components to prevent the internal temperature from rising.

After checking these points, plug in the power cord and use the remote controller to turn on the unit. Turn down the volume before resuming playback. Confirm that there are no problems with the speaker connections and playback performance.

If this symptom recurs, request service at your nearest service center.

In rare instances, the unit may enter standby mode and the STANDBY indicator may blink rapidly, 8 times per second. In this case, unplug the power cord and request service at your nearest service center.

Try unplugging everything, including your speaker wires. It's possible that you have a damaged or crossed cable or wire causing a short that activated the receiver's internal circuit. It might have also reheated.

Let the unit sit for an hour. Plug it in (just the power), set the volume to minimum, and turn it on. If it stays on, the issue MIGHT be with a wire or connection, so you should examine all of the tires for damage or crossed connections.

Turn the receiver off, unplug it, reconnect the wires and cables. Plug it back in, make sure the volume is set to the minimum level and turn the receiver on.

Audio output shorted out or blown fuses in power supply check all fuses if fuses are good your Audio out put transitors or I.C has been shorted out as a result of impedence over load in future dont connect speakers in parallel in those small Audio units.

You have an internal short in your receiver could be power supply or most likely a output transister. There is a code to the blinking red light check your manual it may list the number of blinks with problem. However its not a simple fix. plus make sure HDMI cable is unplugged when reseting receiver if this cable has a short it may cause it to. Sorry to hear the bad news, nice receiver

Try disconnecting everything (speakers cables, signal cables, all other units) except the power cord, then turn the unit on, if the protector message persists, then the fault is in the reciever.

If this is the case, you should check the speaker and signal connectors for any damage, shorts or loose solder contacts, also check the unit for any shorted or broken wires, loose wire connections, bad solder contacts on connector pins, bad solder contacts on ANY other components (give some extra attention to the components that tend to warm up while they operate, like main power amp transistors / ICs, voltage regulators, power resistors, diodes, also coils, capacitors, etc). Any loose solder connections should be resoldered.

If there's no message when you've disconnected the outside equipment, you have either a bad speaker, a bad speaker cable, a bad signal interconnection cable, or a fault in any of the units that were connected to the reciever. You can find which one is the cause by turning the reciever off, then connecting one cable or unit, turning the reciever on again, see if there's a message, if there's none, turn it off again, connect the next unit / cable and so on, until you get the protector message. The cable or unit that will make the message appear is most probably the cause for the trouble (there might be loose solder connections on other units' cable connectors or other components). When you plug and unplug the cables many times, with time this will loosen the solder connection on the pins inside the unit, so these need to be resoldered.

Turn the unit off by main switch (not a standby button).
Press and hold "Speakers-A" and "Speakers-B" buttons and turn on main switch.
Display blinks.
Release the buttons after 3 seconds.
Receiver is reseted.

Hi...1st off ...make sure all the speakers are connected at both ends.
2nd..buy a new cat..one that doesnt drool.
If it's still stays in Stdby after checking speakers, It might have blown an internal fuse cause thats where those darn stereo people put them now.

Are all the speakers GOOD and all connected right?
If so then you have at least one blown output amplifier module.

i have the same problem with a onkyo tx ds494

When it is on, does any audio come out of the speakers? If so, you may have a problem in the protection circuits. If no audio is heard, I would first check the speaker wires to make sure there are no strands shorting across the terminals, and that you have the it selected to output audio to the speakers -- Now also be sure to check the various inputs, for instance if it has a FM receiver, select that and see if any audio comes out then as well. I don't know what the cable guy could do other than knock loose a wire or change connections on you.
