Even i dont have any cables nor speaker connected to the back of my reciever unit turns off and standby light keeps on blinking. Sometimes power up normaly but at the end it turn itself off and standby light strart to blink.
Most likely, you have DC Offset(a bad amplifier). The unit is shutting down to protect your speaker system, as well as protect the unit from any further damage. If you require more assistance, or would like to inquire about repairing your Onkyo, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. You may contact me there. Thank you.

The problem is not with the inputs. This unit is in protect because a problem has been detected in the output section. Try disconnecting the speaker wires and turning it on. If the unit remains on, there is a short in one of the speaker wires. If the unit still shuts down, there is an internal problem that will require repair. It sounds like this is a new piece. If so, it should be covered under warranty.

With the unit unplugged, remove the top cover and use an ohmeter to check the 10 power transistors on the large heat sink; Q6050 thru 54 and Q6060 thru 64. If you find blown transistors (R<1 ohm from E to C) you'll need to replace them. Also check the large ceramic current sharing resistors, R6100 thru 04 next to the output transistors. These are dual 0.22 ohm, 2W resistors that typically fail open if overstressed. These are both common failures resulting from overloading the speaker outputs that will cause the proctection circuit to shut down the power supply at turn on. Good luck.

you have to get it fixed. same thing happened to my onkyo reciever and they said it was a bad circuit. had to take it to an onkyo tech and have it replaced.

Hi...1st off ...make sure all the speakers are connected at both ends.
2nd..buy a new cat..one that doesnt drool.
If it's still stays in Stdby after checking speakers, It might have blown an internal fuse cause thats where those darn stereo people put them now.

PROTECTIVE FEATURE
In some cases, the STANDBY indicator may blink slowly, twice per second. In this case, turn off the unit, unplug the power cord, and check the following points.
Make sure the speaker cables are not reversed and connected to the wrong sides (+ and -) on the unit.
Make sure the speaker cables connected to the unit are not shorted. (Check both the unit end and the speaker end.)
Make sure the volume does not exceed the level that the unit is capable of producing.
When using the unit in a rack or other enclosed space, heat may build up inside the unit and cause a fire. When installing the unit, be sure to leave suffi cient space between the top, back and both sides of the unit and walls or other AV components to prevent the internal temperature from rising.
After checking these points, plug in the power cord and use the remote controller to turn on the unit. Turn down the volume before resuming playback. Confirm that there are no problems with the speaker connections and playback performance.
If this symptom recurs, request service at your nearest service center.
In rare instances, the unit may enter standby mode and the STANDBY indicator may blink rapidly, 8 times per second. In this case, unplug the power cord and request service at your nearest service center.
